Plunging Towards Gomorrah
Gas Taxes
I actually agree with Barack Obama on an issue. This summer tax relief idea is a joke. It’s not surprising that many economists agree. I can’t imagine that the issue will gain much traction given the negative press the tax break is receiving. It’s funny that the media finally decide to pay attention economists when it benefits Senator Obama. I haven’t seen a lot of press about Obama’s windfall profit tax on oil companies. Hillary Clinton has also called for the idiot tax. Amity Shlaes wrote an article last week about the history of the tax. Not surprisingly, it doesn’t work, it makes things worse, and the tax is passed on to consumers. Shlaes comes down hard on Clinton’s version of the tax, but now Obama has his own version that is three times larger than Clinton’s plan. In the grand scheme of things Obama’s plan is the worst thing for Americans, but I won’t hold my breath waiting for the press to tell the truth about it.

Senator Obama has a problem wearing a flag pin, but has no problem having his picture taken in front of a huge flag every day.
The saddest part of this election parade is that no candidate has advanced any real rational strategy for energy. President Nixon and President Carter both supported various kinds of windfall profit taxes and their lack of economic understanding is now legendary. It’s actually kind of frightening that McCain supports the Summer gas tax break. Clinton and McCain are both trying to secure the middle ground for the general election. For whatever reason Democrats haven’t figured out that she has the best chance to defeat McCain. 2012 can’t get here soon enough.

Weekend Flush: ObamaCare, Liars, Inception, and John Edwards

ObamaCare: It seems like years ago when the Democrats passed one of the worst pieces of legislation in American history. Thanks to the evil Democrats the American taxpayer will be funding abortions. Remember when Stupak famously caved thanks to an Obama executive order? The pro-death left dismissed pro-life fears as paranoia. However, we should know
Democrats “Want You” to Pay for Abortion
about 5 months ago - No comments
For those scoring at home if ObamaCare doesn’t pass it’s because the Democrats in Washington insisted on making taxpayers pay for abortion. That’s right. There’s not one good thing you can say about a party committed to making taxpayers pay for the most divisive issue in the nation since slavery. The party of “choice” doesn’t
The Ego Has Landed

Win or lose the President has lost face during the health care debate. In a year of economic woe the President has been on a crusade to strengthen the grip of government on the citizens through a health care takeover. With an approving nod he has sat and watched his party make backroom deals and

The Obama administration has been a godsend for unions. The Economist has an article about unions that sheds light on the type of job creation Obama intends to inflict on the nation. Obama and his socialist union allies would like to create 4 million union jobs. Why not? More union members equals more democrat voters?
RE: Reconciliation or Suicide?

It appears that the White House is ready to double down on dumb. While President Obama wants any kind of health care bill to sign I’m not sure he has the votes. 18 Democrats in the Senate are on the record saying they’re opposed to reconciliation, but politicians hardly ever keep their word. The big
The Cost of Goverment

Government work is good if you can get it. Carpe Diem has a nice looking graph that shows that government employees makes 45% more on average than private sector employees. As I was saying a few days ago. There’s a lot of fat in government than can be cut but no one in Washington is
We’ve Got to Spend Our Way Out of this Mess

Why are “progressives” so quick to assume that most people, scientists, economists, horse whisperers, and terrorists are behind their absurd ideas? Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), the House majority whip is the latest to join this trend. “We’re not going to save our way out of this recession,” the majority whip added. “We’ve got to spend

I was reading an article this morning with the headline, “Iran will deliver telling blow to global powers on Feb. 11.” President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is up to his typical self-contradictory rhetoric. It’s odd to see a man who squashes the will of his own people talk about human dignity: “If the Islamic Revolution had not
Populist Nonsense: Spending Freeze
about 7 months ago - No comments
When my family contemplates a spending freeze we quit spending money. When Obama asks for a spending freeze what does it really mean? This is the President who spent trillions in his first year in office. This measly “freeze” is going to save $15 billion. At this rate, sometime around August 2076 the federal government
obama’s problem: inexperience
about 7 months ago - No comments
Why is President Obama struggling? This is the question many liberals are asking these days, but the answer really isn’t that hard. Those who didn’t buy into Obama-maina knew this President could have problems. Jim Geraghty at the Campaign Spot sums it up very nicely: Look, conservatives spent much of 2007 and 2008 arguing that
