Earlier this week I wrote about the newest presidential rankings. Obviously these historians leave a little to be desired. Ann Coulter wrote a great piece on the same topic a couple of days ago and I missed. I must admit I’m not a huge fan of Coulter. She always has great insights but she’s not winning over any minds with some of her rhetoric. Anyway, she makes some outstanding points about the rankings.
In a poll of “leading scholars” taken soon after Eisenhower left office, he was named one of the 10 worst presidents. The distinguished scholars — none of whose names anyone remembers today — called him dumb, dismissing the five-star general who smashed the Nazi war machine as “Old Bubble Head.” As Patton said, these “bilious bastards … don’t know anything more about real battle than they do about fornicating.”
Eisenhower is now ranked in the top 10. It’s a great example of how political bias influences these supposedly awe inspiring faculty members.
