Remember the Good Old Days: Now that the President has opened his mouth and inserted his foot therein about the NYC Ground Zero Mosque, it’s up to our liberal friends in the press to clean up the mess. That means we get to read nostalgic memories of President Bush. No really!

“It’s time for W. to weigh in,” writes the New York Times’ Maureen Dowd. Bush, Dowd explains, understands that “you can’t have an effective war against the terrorists if it is a war on Islam.” Dowd finds it “odd” that Obama seems less sure on that matter. But to set things back on the right course, she says, “W. needs to get his bullhorn back out” — a reference to Bush’s famous “the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!” speech at Ground Zero on September 14, 2001.

Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson is also looking for an assist from Bush. “I…would love to hear from former President Bush on this issue,” Robinson wrote Tuesday in a Post chat session. “He held Ramadan iftar dinners in the White House as part of a much broader effort to show that our fight against the al-Qaeda murderers who attacked us on 9/11 was not a crusade against Islam. He was absolutely right on this point, and it would be helpful to hear his views.”

The former President has kept a fairly low profile since he went back to Texas so I doubt he’ll get involved in this debate. I could care less what New York does. The city has a lot worse problems than a location of a mosque; however, I can understand why people would be upset about its location. Obama (at least initially) didn’t appear sensitive to those concerns. Although, when compared to Nancy Pelosi’s position, Obama’s opinion seems reasonable. Oh well, at least we have Mr. Obama on record supporting a portion of the First Amendment. Now if he would only endorse the entire Constitution we would really make some progress!

How Not to Improve a Recession: Large companies will be hit with a 9% increase in health care costs thanks to ObamaCare. Obviously that number is much lower than what the actual number will turn out to be. Either way, companies will be forced to lay off workers to be able to afford to stay in business. Oh well, at least we’ll have “free” health care, food stamps, unemployment insurance and solar power!

President Approval: During the last two years of the Bush administration the press was obsessed with Bush’s falling approval ratings. It was headline news, and it was mentioned daily. Well, Obama is sinking fast. There’s always time to recover, but the magic has faded. Oh well, at least the press has been diligent about the comings and goings of everyone’s favorite party girl, Lindsay Lohan.
