Creatures of the Enlightenment: Sometimes I just stumble onto the craziest stuff written on the Blogosphere. I read an article on LA Progressive (it’s fine, I didn’t comment) written by Berry Craig entitled: “It’s the Country, Not the System, That’s Stacked Against Liberals and Progressives.” It’s a fun read, but here’s the part that made me laugh out loud:
On the other hand, conservatism skews farther rightward in America than in any other Western nation. In all of the others, the Republicans would be far-right, way out on the fringe. At the same time, the nature of liberalism can be a disadvantage to its proponents. Liberals are creatures of the Enlightenment, sometimes called the Age of Reason. So in politics, they appeal to reason over emotion. In other words, liberals aim for the head, not the gut.
Where to begin? If the United States is the exception to the rule, why are we so exceptional? Hmm, wait… according to Progressives, America is full of hate, injustice, intolerance and nationalistic nutjobs. The “he’s not my president” part of the Democrat party is only “proud to be American” when their guy is in the White House.
The most farcical comment is the supposed monopoly progressives have on “reason over emotion.” Obviously, both sides suffer from overly emotional zealots, but Craig seems to forget about the New Left. Or perhaps those ecoterrorists were fueled by reason. Or maybe Craig doesn’t want to think about the crazies on the New Left because he’s a “professor” of “history” at the West Kentucky Community and Technical College. In 2008, the enlightened criers during Obama’s ascension did not cry because of emotion, it was reason. Let’s just pick a few issues that “progressives” are emotional about… Health Care, check. Climate Change, check. Gay Marriage, check. Abortion, check. Taking back the White House? Check and mate and arrrrrrrrrggggggggggg!!
For more reason, please read Craig’s unemotional look back at Ronald Reagan, who by the way is the greatest president of the last 50 years.
Survivor: Speaking of Howard Dean, the screamer believes the ObamaCare mandate will not survive and it’s unconstitutional? Keep this link handy down the road when the Left loses its marbles when the mandate is struck down. All those liberals who praised the Lord’s name when California’s Proposition 8 was struck down will surely curse His name once ObamaCare is no more (we can hope).
Lazarus Baby: A baby in Mexico City who had been pronounced dead suddenly came to life inside the coffin. This is a great story, but I’m not sure how President Obama feels about this considering his voting record while serving the state of Illinois.
