beastliness

On December 2, 2004, in Politics, by Henshaw

In the Economist there is a great article on the state of the United Nations. The cumbersome organization is moving further into insignificance every day, but how can it be fixed? Marvin Olasky has written an article about the person the New York Times called the most influential philosopher alive. It is fascinating how it is possible for intellectuals to argue that anything it moral. Obviously what Princeton professor Peter Singer says is idiotic, but over time these amoral changes take place incrementally and everyone starts to accept it. We are all guilty of this in some way or the other, but where does it end?

For example, when I asked him recently about (what if two people make an agreement that whoever lives longest can ual relations with the corpse of the person who dies first?), he said, “There’s no moral problem with that.” Concerning — should people with animals, seen as willing participants? — he responded, “I would ask, ‘What’s holding you back from a more fulfilling relationship?’ (bu ) ‘ not wrong inherently in a moral sense.”

December is here and I’ve been hard at work. My little job interview thing fell through. How quickly that came and went. Kind of wasted my time but whatever.
Taylor got me the coolest x-mas present. let the pictures speak for themselves.

new music

On November 30, 2004, in Journal, Music, by Henshaw

a little break from the work grind. good news for music fans idlewild and coldplay are releasing new albums in March. Idlewild’s new album is called ‘Warnings/Promises’ and is now confirmed for release on 7th March 2005. Coldplay’s new album is yet untitled, but should be out around the same time.
I am looking forward to Idlewild’s album a lot more than Coldplay. Call me crazy.

today was kind of a blur. at work it was the same old thing. i called my leads, but nothing really going on. tech house pushed my interview back until 5pm. i talked to the gentleman in sales for about 30 minutes. i think it went well, but you can never know with this type of thing. they’ll call me later this week of it amounts to anything.
not much else going on. when i look back over the last year so much of my life has changed. it makes me wonder where i’ll be a year from now.
UNC beat up on USC last night. that was great. The Panthers beating the Bucs was also especially satisfying.
Arsenal losing to Liverpool, not good.

A very lazy Saturday. It’s been raining most of the evening. There hasn’t been very much rain the past couple of months. t* and I went to see I <3 Huckabees. It was very clever and it had some really funny parts. A little long though. It was well worth a dollar. Georgia beat Georgia Tech, good has triumphed over evil again.
I have been getting more reading done as well. Stephan King’s The Waste Lands is a good book in the dark tower series.
k that’s enough for now

On November 27, 2004, in Journal, by Henshaw

today is the first day of the rest of your life. i tell myself that every day when i wake up. actually i don’t tell myself that at all, but i wanted to seem philosophical. obviously that’s about the most shallow line in the history of blogging, really, i’m sorry….
on to other things. i… taylor recorded with my trusty digital camera a brief tour of my apartment. you can now see the headquarters of www.nemov.net and my subsidiaries. i don’t have any, but just imagine if i did. that would be important.
i’m an idiot
have a nice day.

Joseph Arthur – Our Shadows Will Remain

On November 26, 2004, in Reviews, by Henshaw

I have been listening to Joseph Arthur since his release Come To Where I am From. For me that is one of the top 10 albums of the past ten years. Redemption’s Son was also a very great album. I have been listening to the album for the past week and I am not sure where to place it among his works. I had the same problem with Redemption?s Son when I first bought it. His albums get better over time. “Can’t Exist” is great single and very accessible.
This album is a step forward and it very satisfying to hear Arthur develop as an artist. Our Shadows Will Remain grows with repeated listening, hopefully with some more commercial success Arthur can continue to make more meaningful music. There are some really great moments on the album and some great arrangements. He really is in a class by himself.

I had a great day today. We finished watching the office season 2 today. It’s so great!! The acting and the humor of that show is brilliant. I can’t wait to see the Christmas special and see how they ended the show. It’s too bad there’s not more.
The Thanksgiving meal was excellent. Thumbs up all around. Taylor’s family has been so nice to me I don’t really even know how to begin to thank them. They’re great people and they have a great daughter. : )
tomorrow I’m probably going to work a short day. anything is better than Circuit City. I’ll be thinking about my boys in Charlotte that have to work tomorrow from 5am. Good luck lads.

Thanksgiving

On November 25, 2004, in Journal, by Henshaw

Happy Turkey Day to everyone out there. I rolled out of bed a little late this morning. Yesterday was very tiring; I ended up working from 9am to 7:30p. After a very long a process my first loan officially closed. The customer threatened to walk away from the closing table, but I was able to reassure them. Yikes, what a day.
So today is a day of relaxation. : )

Holy Roman Empire

On November 24, 2004, in Politics, by Henshaw

Apart from of the great humanitarian work the United Nations performs the UN is a worthless organization. It has been unable to resolve world conflicts and has become a bastion of corruption. At this point it is impossible to reform the bureaucracy and it has become the purpose of the UN to oppose the United States: the loan superpower. Since World War Two the UN has not contributed to peace. It was only mutually assured destruction that kept the US and the USSR from all out conflict during the Cold War.

That forced the Untied Nations, which, like any bureaucracy, is interested first and foremost in self-preservation, to seek a new sponsor. In the past decade, as France and Germany have increasingly seen themselves as the leaders of Europe in an effort to create a counterbalance to the American superpower; the United Nations has progressively yielded to their guidance. Today, it is little more than a marginally useful tool in their schemes to rein in the United States.
