out of wedlock births

The most startling statistics this week was the release of the 2007 birth rates. While most press outlets concentrated on the total number of births (which was largest in the United States history), the most incredible revelation is the number of children born out of wedlock.

The birth rate rose slightly for women of all ages, and births to unwed mothers reached an all-time high of about 40 percent, continuing a trend that started years ago. More than three-quarters of these women were 20 or older. For a variety of reasons, it’s become more acceptable for women to have babies without a husband, said Duke University’s S. Philip Morgan, a leading fertility researcher.

The question we must ask ourselves is this, should this be more acceptable? There’s a wealth of research that suggests out of wedlock children are less likely to become educated, more prone to go to jail, and more likely not to contribute to society in a positive way. Our political correct culture refuses to take action against this problem. It’s getting worse for every segment of American society. The ABC story doesn’t touch on the issue of race. For whatever reason Sarah Palin is mentioned because the left is completely obsessed with her. Here’s what ABC left out.

Even worse, 71.6 percent of out-of-wedlock births are to African American women. This should be alarming to read considering the negative societal implications for children born and raised in single parent households. It is well documented that compared with children born to married couples, those born outside of marriage score lower on tests, have increased chances for committing a crime, have higher chances of living in poverty, experience more emotional and behavioral problems, are more likely to abuse drugs or alcohol, and have higher chances of becoming pregnant as teens.

There can be no debate about the link between poverty and out of wedlock births. The fact that this trend is getting worse for all Americans is alarming because no civilization has ever been able to sustain itself with so many illegitimate births. It seems as if no one wants to talk about it. ABC would rather blame Sarah Palin’s daughter and the fact abortions are down. I guess that’s one way to solve the problem. Kill more babies, that’s the ticket! Yes, the decline continues.

Born-alive Infants Protection Act

On August 13, 2008, in Politics, by Henshaw

Barack ObamaI will never be able to vote for Senator Barack Obama based on one issue. He voted against Partial-Birth Abortion. The procedure is one of the most disgusting things imaginable. There’s really no argument to justify its existence. Many times abortion advocates lean on the “health of the Mother” excuse, but that’s just a red herring.
The Untied States Supreme Court has upheld the law passed by Congress a few years ago. Unfortunately Obama’s problems aren’t just contained with Partial-Birth Abortion. While he was a State Senator in Illinois Obama voted against the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. The law states that any baby that has been born alive after a botched abortion is to be legally considered a person. The law passed the US Congress by unanimous consent, but when it came up for a vote in Illinois Obama voted no. This is significant because Obama voted “present” most of the time. In order to avoid sticky political issues the future presidential candidate would not vote. However, in this case Obama raised his voice. Even the very liberal NARAL did not oppose the law. Obama has given some excuse about a “neutrality clause” but that’s been exposed as a lie. Obama is way out of step with mainstream Americans on this issue, and I cannot vote for anyone that believes that a baby that survives a botched abortion should be killed.
