Blame Arizona: When eight young black men violently beat up a Hispanic man for no apparent reason, leave it the Associated Press to speculate. What could possibly be the reason for the violence?
Residents of Port Richmond – where an influx of newcomers from Latin America over the past decade has transformed the community – alternately blame the attacks on the economy, unemployment and the debate over Arizona’s immigration law.
And although most of the suspects were described as young black men and investigated for bias crimes, a grand jury has indicted only one of seven people arrested on a hate-crime charge.
Just for a minute let’s imagine if a group of white men beat up a black man. Would the Associated Press write:
Residents of Port Richmond – where an influx of newcomers from Africa over the past decade has transformed the community – alternately blame the attacks on the economy, unemployment and the debate over Affirmative Action.
That would be an outrageous excuse for this type of violent behavior. There’s simply no excuse for this when it happens. Why is it happening? If you look at the history of civilization, newcomers are always greeted unfavorably by the locals. These black men are simply passing on the same ignorant prejudices that greeted the Irish, German, Catholic, Chinese, and Jewish immigrants that first came to America. In other words, they’re racists.
Gatekeeper Watch: Even TechCruch has succumbed to publishing articles discussing the decline of the mainstream media gatekeepers. Jon Orlin complains that hoaxes are more problematic today because the mainstream media isn’t there to protect us any longer.
This past week, formerly unknown actress Elyse Porterfield fooled millions playing Jenny, the fired Dry Erase girl, in a clever hoax. Right now, I guarantee other pranksters are dreaming up new schemes to fool you again. And journalists, who at one time were tasked with protecting the public from such lies, no longer have the same power to block them.
Club Soda has covered this meme well in the past. I wish I could get a nickel for every time I read an article like this. Liberals liked the status quo because they published nonsense for generations and no one could do anything about it. The reason Rush Limbaugh is so popular is because in 1990 the entire press was dominated by the Left. Limbaugh was the only easily accessed source for a conservative viewpoint.
Other than John Stossel, who is doing real investigative journalism about the inefficiencies of the government? The press isn’t interested in anything except faux objective reporting. “Objective reporting” does nothing except further the agenda of Democrats. That’s why, just like you can always find a cop at a donut shop, there’s sure to be a “journalist” at the proverbial Kinko’s fabricating the next “fake-but-accurate” news story.
Don’t Give into Fear: After using fear to sell the stimulus bill, ObamaCare, financial regulation, and cap and trade President Obama is now urging Americans who will listen to “don’t give into fear.” Then he proceeded to scare people.
On Monday, he warned of reliving a dreadful past, saying Republicans want voters “to be afraid of the future.” “The worst thing we could do is to go back to the very same policies that created this mess in the first place,” Obama said at a fundraiser in Wisconsin. “In November, you’re going to have that choice.”
If we could only relive the dreadful past of 5% unemployment.
Good-bye Cathy: This is probably the greatest news ever. The reign of terror sometimes known as the comic strip Cathy is finally over.
Cathy Guisewite, the strip’s creator, announced on Wednesday that she is ending the popular cartoon’s run, The Associated Press reported. Ms. Guisewite, 59, said that the autobiographical strip has been “the most astonishing form of therapy,” but that her “creative biological clock” was ticking, and she wants to try something else — although isn’t sure what.
Have you ever noticed that the greatest comic strips always end too soon and the mediocre ones live forever? Here’s hoping Pearls Before Swine and Get Fuzzy have a few more great years ahead.
Way Too Early Poll: A poll in Iowa shows former Governor Mike Huckabee leading all other hopefuls. Gulp! There’s not enough Maker’s Mark in the world to wash that pain away.
Time is on Obama’s Side: It’s been known for a while that Time magazine is basically another branch of the White House. The “newsmagazine’s” bias has been on display for a long time, but its ass-kissing has reached an all-time low. When Mark Halperin writes an article entitled, “Obama’s Islamic-Center Stance: Why the GOP Shouldn’t Run Against It,” you can rest assured that the GOP should take the opposite advice.
The blog The Root, which is owned by The Washington Post, has an article entitled “Black Folks We’d Like To Remove From Black History.” The list includes Ugandan military dictator Idi Amin, the notorious “DC Sniper” John Allen Muhammad, and Zimbabwean totalitarian Robert Mugabe. Guess who else is on the list? That horrible man Clarence Thomas.
Although he’s only the second man of color to serve in the Supreme Court, the Backstreet Boys have more standing in the black community than Clarence Thomas. That’s because he looks to the Constitution as “colorblind,” says he’s a man who just happens to be black and opposes government programs intended to help minorities. I’m not sure if the late Thurgood Marshall would want to pop Clarence ‘side his head with his gavel, but there are plenty of blacks who would volunteer to do it for him.
Basically what Michael Arceneaux is saying is that Clarence Thomas’ responsibility isn’t to the Constitution, but to help minorities keep quotas that are unconstitutional. All citizens of the United States are supposed to be judged equally. This is why quotas are unconstitutional. Arceneaux should note that Thomas’ views on abortion and gay marriage actually are in line with most African Americans. However, if you’re an African American intellectual who disagrees with Arceneauex you’re in line with murderers. How’s that for derangement?
The true greatness of people like Clarence Thomas and the economist Thomas Sowell is that they are truly colorblind. Instead of grasping onto tired ideologies that are based on race they are able to think for themselves. Thomas Sowell is one of my favorite economists and he’s also someone who has changed the way I think about many issues. Should I care if he’s black, blue or purple? Apparently I should, at least according to Arceneaux. But I won’t.
I have been purposely been avoiding Palinmania because I’m suffering from Palin fatigue. I don’t understand either side of this phenomenon. Many on the left hate her for no reason and many on the right love her because she’s so despised. The whole thing is juvenile. Now that Palin has a book out, the madness continues. Anyway, CNN has an editorial by LZ Granderson a senior writer and columnist for ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com. There have been some stupid columns written about Palin, but this ranks near the top. Evidently, Palin is insensitive to minorities because her book tour doesn’t stop in minority areas.
It just seems that in going to few diversely populated cities, she’s purposefully steering clear of minorities. I mean, what author with a $5 million book deal avoids promoting books in large cities? Palin’s curious tour schedule takes me right back to some of the more disturbing displays during last year’s campaign, when people at some campaign rallies at times made racist remarks. This is not to say I believe Sarah Palin is a racist. But she said or did very little to address the racist ugliness around her during the campaign.
Did Hillary Clinton say or do anything about the “racist ugliness” around her during the campaign? This whole “angry racist crowd” is another myth from the 2008 campaign. What’s so sad is that people like Granderson are so willing to believe such sensationalist nonsense. Granderson, who went to a Palin event, obviously didn’t see any racism, otherwise he would have wrote about it. Instead, he says, “I did get a lot of strange looks from the line, which I guess was to be expected. After all, I’m a black man with dreadlocks and, judging by the racial makeup of most of the cities Palin has scheduled for her tour, it doesn’t seem I’m her target audience.” I guess “strange looks” are open for debate. What does a “strange look” look like? I think this observation says more about Granderson than the crowd itself.
Why should Palin visit areas that have no interest in seeing her? Will that make Granderson feel better? McCain made a series of trips to minority areas untouched by previous Republican campaigns and it didn’t help at all. I wonder how much longer the Democrats will get away with this “Republicans are racist” nonsense. On social issues African Americans share more in common with the religious right than with the Democratic party. The Democrats do have an upper hand when it comes to spending money on government programs to supposedly reduce poverty. For those scoring at home the percentage of people living in poverty in the United States was steadily decreasing for decades before the “War on Poverty.” Since the 1960s the U.S. has spent trillions of dollars and the poverty rate has remained unchanged. Here’s one last bit from Granderson:
As a Midwesterner with some Southern roots, I actually have a lot in common with Palin. I’ve hunted with dogs, fished, had a kid in hockey, I go to church on Sundays and, having worked in New York and L.A., I’ve had my fair share of run-ins with elitist, liberal snobs. This is why I am so profoundly disappointed with her. Instead of using her popularity and influence to highlight our similarities and move the nation forward, she has allowed some of the nation’s most painful wounds to be re-opened to advance her career.
Huh? What has Palin done to re-open wounds? Granderson needs to look outside of his soapbox. He’s trapped like many other Americans in a perception soapbox and unable to decipher fact from fiction. Palin’s only crime is being Republican in a political system that has exonerated Democrats from being racist, I guess because Democrats treat minorities like children and come up with programs that ensure their slavery to the state to the detriment of the individual.
