Obama’s Legacy: Empty Words

On September 5, 2011, in Politics, by Henshaw

Over the last two months all we’ve heard from the left is the supposed extremism of Michele Bachmann/Rick Perry/ Ron Paul. Actually that’s all we ever hear about anyone to the right of Joseph Lieberman. Justice Robert Bork was too extreme. Ronald Reagan was too extreme. Even Justice Roberts was labeled an extremist. It’s tiring and it’s just lazy, but no one calls the press and the left out for it.

When Barack Obama ran for president in 2008 the media overlooked his relationship with a former member of the  Weather Underground and dismissed his twenty-year relationship to a psychotic pastor. The title of Obama’s book The Audacity of Hope was inspired by a sermon by Jeremiah Wright. Nevertheless, the press issued a pass and the world moved on. It was an amazing thing to behold. Barack Obama was one of the most unqualified people ever to be elected. There was literally nothing known about the man and yet the press failed to do its job because they were so enamored by his candidacy.

In 2008, the Obama campaign ran under the flag of hope and change. His administration was supposed to find common ground and bring the nation together. Three years later the nation is more divided than it has been in a generation. There is always someone else to blame for the nation’s problems. Obama blames the economy on his predecessor. He blames gridlock and partisanship on the GOP even though Democrats have enjoyed huge majorities for two years.

When Obama enjoyed large majorities he didn’t concentrate on the economy. The President decided that it was time to push a massive new entitlement through Congress. The hubris by Obama and the left has been amazing and virtually unprecedented, excepting Oedipus Rex. The nation is upset because the government is out of touch. When Medicare and Social Security were made into law they were popular from the onset. ObamaCare is still massively unpopular. Instead of dealing with this reality all I hear from the left is “death panels.” They still have no concept about rationed care. Two years of constant debate and the left still hasn’t learned anything.

After the tragedy in Arizona in January the left was quick to blame Sarah Palin for the attack even though no one knew the attacker’s motivation. When it turned out the guy was a sociopath that had no political leanings there was no apology and the myth lives on..

If the left is so passionate about extremism it’s time for them to call off the dogs. At an Obama campaign rally Labor Day event AFL-CIO leader Jimmy Hoffa said the following:

“We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They’ve got a war, they got a war with us and there’s only going to be one winner. It’s going to be the workers of Michigan, and America. We’re going to win that war,” Jimmy Hoffa Jr. said to a heavily union crowd.

“President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let’s take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong,” Hoffa added.

Not to be outdone Vice President Joseph Biden called Republicans “barbarians.” It’s really unbelievable stuff. Just a few weeks ago Biden was overheard calling Congressional Republicans terrorists. Will the White House apologize for this stuff? If there’s enough outrage I’m sure the White House will give a speech about it. That’s what this administration does well: talk. In January, Obama called for “civility” in public discourse and for people to talk “in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.”

Even if Obama is reelected the legacy of this administration is sealed. What could this President ever offer the American people at this point? He’s an ineffectual leader who only makes pretty speeches. The gig is up. No one cares anymore.

You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Matthew 7:16

We’ve had three years of words that do not match actions. His administrations has fanned division instead of healing, Instead of solving problems he blames everyone else. The true test of the man came after his major accomplishment. When the United States killed Osama Bin Laden the President was quick to point out how he helped make it happen. Beware of a person who is quick to say “me” when things go well and quick to say “you” when things aren’t going well. That’s the legacy of President Obama.

RE: Mother Earth the Scapegoat

On March 13, 2011, in Global Warming, Miscellaneous, by Henshaw

Club Soda is right, Mother Earth is angry and apparently she’s angry a lot. Here are some tweets from the past couple of days from those concerned about Mother Earth. What does Global Warming have to do with the disaster in Japan: nothing. But what did Sarah Palin have to do with the shooting in Arizona? It must be some kind of coping mechanism. People grasp at straws to cope with the disaster.

I think Mother Earth is declaring war with us, humans. We've made her angry by causing so much harm. It's payback time to us? #thoughts

When Intelligence Attacks

On January 17, 2011, in Blogosphere, Politics, by Henshaw

One major misconception about intelligent people is that they’re smart. Just because someone has a Ph.D after their name doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve very smart. Sometimes, they’re probably just trying too hard. If I spent the last ten years going to school instead of working a full time job and funding the ever increasing welfare state I could have a Ph.D by now.

Today I’m singling out David Banks. Who is that you may ask? No one, but today he fired off this tweet to Andrew Breitbart.

DA_Banks: @andrewbreitbart I had a bad morning, and hating on you is sort of like praying: nothing’ll happen but it makes me feel better. F*** you. [Edited]

I’m not sure what it is that makes people so deranged about politics. There are many people in this world with whom I disagree, but I won’t feel anything telling Whoopi Goldberg she’s crazy for her laissez-faire view of rape. In Mr. Banks’ defense most of his tweets are fairly harmless; however, on January 7 he wrote this gem:

DA_Banks: Today we can say that @sarahpalinusa killed a woman in Arizona in 2011.

The left’s deranged attacks on Palin are common knowledge, but it’s still fascinating that minutes after the tragedy many people on the left’s first thought was, “How is Sarah Palin involved?” The infamous crosshair nonsense was being circulated right after the shooting was broadcast on the news. That means the moment that some leftie found out that a Democrat had been shot they found any way possible to tie it to Sarah Palin.

Mr. Banks never followed his Palin tweet with any remorse. In fact, the next day he tried to give Palin some advice. The truth is how can you take someone like Mr. Banks seriously? Here’s a person telling a prominent politician to  refrain from “glorifying violence” while at the same time blaming said politician for a murder. I’m sorry Mr. Banks. You might eventually get a Ph.D, but you have a lot to learn before anyone takes your views on politics seriously.

Update: As you can imagine when David Banks had his tweet retweeted by Andrew Breitbart he received a lot of messages. Mr. Banks was able to put it all in perspective.

DA_Banks: I said that to @andrewbreitbart b/c he uses his whole feed as a frame to make leftists look crazy. And you all just eat it up.

What?! Breitbart makes leftists look crazy? I’m sorry Mr. Banks, you’re doing a fantastic job all by yourself.

A Rebuttal to a Statement on the Arizona Shootings

On January 10, 2011, in Politics, by club soda

Why is it that whenever something goes awry the first instinct of “progressives” is to look for ways to infringe on our liberties? The tragic shooting in Arizona perpetrated by a lunatic has become the opportunity du jour for a raft of leftists to call for a clamp-down on free speech.

One of my favorites comes from UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert J. Birgeneau in his statement on the Arizona shooting. Here’s one of Birgeneau’s profound observations in the statement:

A climate in which demonization of others goes unchallenged and hateful speech is tolerated can lead to such a tragedy. I believe that it is not a coincidence that this calamity has occurred in a state which has legislated discrimination against undocumented persons. This same mean-spirited xenophobia played a major role in the defeat of the Dream Act by legislators in Washington, leaving many exceptionally talented and deserving young people, including our own undocumented students, painfully in limbo with regard to their futures in this country.

Where to begin? Well, let’s start with the climate in which the “demonization of others goes unchallenged and hateful speech is tolerated.” That “climate” is called “free speech,” protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. It’s the law of the land and I’m sorry that Mr. Birgeneau doesn’t appreciate the fact that citizens have every right to demonize and offend.

My simple message to Mr. Birgeneau and others of his ilk who would love to, by force of law, tell me what I can and cannot say or believe.

Ironic, isn’t it, that Mr. Birgeneau bemoans the climate of demonization in America, and then demonizes those who believe that illegal immigration is illegal, even though illegal immigration is, in fact, illegal. The law abiders, for lack of a better term, are mean-spirited xenophobes! According to Mr. Birgeneau, open and rigorous debate equals hateful speech.

So let me get this straight… We’re supposed to be tolerant, but there are certain things we shouldn’t tolerate (a.k.a., any political position with which Mr. Birgeneau disagrees). I get it. It reminds me of a childhood friend who used to make up the rules as we went along to whatever game we were playing to ensure his victory. “Okay, that’s HORSE,” I’d say as the ball swished through the net. “That’s great,” he’d reply. “But we’re playing that the first person to HORSE loses.” Okay then.

Mr. Birgeneau makes an insidious, yet extremely irrational connection between the shooting in Arizona and the immigration debate. Somehow, in Mr. Birgeneau’s world, one helped cause the other because there are people who disagree with Mr. Birgeneau and exercise their right to do so. That can’t be good.

How I long to live in a world where I’ve been forced to believe everything Mr. Birgeneau believes, or at least where I’m not allowed to say anything that’s opposed to his beliefs. It would be, as they say, Utopia. Imagine all the people, living like Birgeneau. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I know I’m not the only one, because Mr. Birgeneau also has this same dream.

Mr. Birgeneau concludes: “Continuing to support our principles of community will ensure a better and safer campus. We must do this now so that our students, as future leaders of this great country, will continue to set the standard for a better and safer nation.”

I’m sorry, Mr. Birgeneau, but I don’t much care for living in a “better and safer nation,” at least not the padded, totalitarian one his statement suggests. I prefer to live free with all the inherent risks that come with living in a free society.

I don’t mind the fact that I will be exposed to offensive, hateful speech. I’d prefer to listen to hate speech, and even suffer the consequences if some wacko is inspired to do something crazy by said hate speech, than have to abide by someone else’s notions of what’s acceptable and unacceptable to think and say. Mr. Birgeneau’s approach to speech is far more dangerous than even the most hateful of hate speech.

Americans Against the Tea Party

On January 9, 2011, in Blogosphere, by Henshaw

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the  Facebook page titled Americans Against the Tea Party. Sadly, I actually have a couple of friends who are members of this group. The quotes are all from today after the facts about the shooter are established. Apparently, many liberals fell so deeply in love with the “It’s Palin’s fault” meme they’re refusing to deal with the reality. Here we go!

Richard Gillet What common grounds with people that preach hatred, are against abortion, can’t accept minorities ,never got to accept that their President was african-american,don’t realize that migrants have come to do the work that americans didn’t want to do themselves(like in France and many other countries),..

I have never understood the left’s Utopian love affair with Europe. France has a lot of problems, especially when it comes to immigration.

Richard Van Hoosen Of course, the teabillies are already claiming that the shooter is a liberal…

You know what’s completely wrong with this?

EVERYONE KNOWS liberals want to take guns away. EVERYONE KNOWS liberals just talk rather than fight, because they’re so timid and cowardly. We’ve heard this daily for over 40 years. So, how on earth… can anyone even come to the conclusion that liberals are the violent ones and still believe those things?

I didn’t know that liberals were pacifists…

Joseph McKinley I think the far right has ruined America beyond repair. America has just become unlivable for any sane person who pays attention to its politics. Whether you’re a liberal or even a conservative, there’s no way that sane people can live here without wanting to tear their hair out. I’m seriously considering moving to …Canada or the UK at this point. Anyone else know what I’m talking about?

The United States is unlivable for a sane person? Really? Have you ever noticed liberals are always threatening to leave the United States? Have you ever noticed that they never do?

Paula Hodge Did anybody notice that yesterday was 01/9/11 and that the 9 year old’s birthday was 09/11/01. God is trying to tell us something. WOW!!!!!!!! (That is if you’re into numbers and their significance.)

So awesome! What does it mean?

Sonia Shannon O My “problem” is that the country I was born in is starting to resemble a certain European country in the 1930s,and hate crimes are becoming almost as common as they once were in the Jim Crow south, and these crimes are not only ignored but accepted and encouraged, and we have people who are clearly batshit crazy forming organizations in support of leaders who want to turn the USA into a Fascist Theocracy as well as plunge us into WW3 which they believe will lead to the Rapture, etc etc….

This one has everything. First it’s full of Christianphobia and it touches on Goodwin’s Law. I went to church today and there was no talk of turning the US into a Fascist Theocracy. Most Christians I know aren’t interested in taking over the county. I’m as conservative as they come and I don’t believe in the Rapture. I wonder where it all went wrong?

And finally…

Colleen Anne Cups These people are terrorists. Their “We want our freedoms! That means you can’t have yours!” mentality is right up there with Hitler’s.

If you’re willing to believe that your political opponents are terrorists doesn’t that justify doing anything to prevent them from winning? If Collen Anne Cups thinks I’m a terrorist she probably won’t mind if a lose some civil liberties. It’s been an interesting weekend to keep up with the news.

A Sad Day for Reason

On January 9, 2011, in Politics, by Henshaw

The assassination attempt yesterday in Arizona against Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is terrible for the country. I followed the story closely yesterday. It’s been a crazy 24 hours on the news, blogosphere, Twitter and Facebook. There is a lot of embarrassment to go around today. Many partisans were quick to blame the attack on the “climate of hate” on the right. Just read Paul Krugman’s take on the attack not knowing anything about the attacker.

The thinking is simple on the left: The right is full of extremists and if there’s any violence in politics it’s most definitely going to be on right. Bill Maher made this case on his HBO show a few months ago. It’s beyond me why seemingly intelligent people like Maher make such ignorant comments. The truth? Violence is a universal human problem.

This author had the honor of working undercover with the FBI during the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. Several Left-of-Center activists made firebombs which they had intended to use on law-enforcement personnel and on Republican delegates. The FBI thwarted the plans. However, rather than express concern over the intended violence, the New York Times and the Huffington Post (among many others) immediately set out to control the narrative and to “minimize” any political damage from such Leftist extremism. The MSM decided to focus on the so called peace activists feeling betrayed and threatened by the government for having infiltrated their efforts, rather than the fact that such efforts spawned such violence. Never once did the MSM use the term “Leftwing Extremist” or even acknowledge that such violence was wrong. Never once did they mention that the FBI had prevented violence. They even went as far as promoting the erroneous claim that the government was to blame for the violence. Once the Leftist would-be bombers admitted their guilt, the MSM dropped the story and never denounced the intended violence.

Exactly. What about the Discovery Channel gunman? The Unabomber? The list goes on and on. Now I expect this kind of stupidity from people like Jane Fonda, but many on the left and in the media were quick to blame Palin just because a Democrat had been shot. The truth appears that the gunman, Jared Loughner, is no fan of anyone, especially Sarah Palin. He’s an anarchist who didn’t belong to any political philosophy. He is, quite simply, deranged.

Although if one “speculates” he was described as left wing by someone who allegedly knew him two years ago. Now that the truth is out I expect the left and the media to “urge caution” after all caution was initially thrown to the wind.

Blame Arizona: When eight young black men violently beat up a Hispanic man for no apparent reason, leave it the Associated Press to speculate. What could possibly be the reason for the violence?

Residents of Port Richmond – where an influx of newcomers from Latin America over the past decade has transformed the community – alternately blame the attacks on the economy, unemployment and the debate over Arizona’s immigration law.

And although most of the suspects were described as young black men and investigated for bias crimes, a grand jury has indicted only one of seven people arrested on a hate-crime charge.

Just for a minute let’s imagine if a group of white men beat up a black man. Would the Associated Press write:

Residents of Port Richmond – where an influx of newcomers from Africa over the past decade has transformed the community – alternately blame the attacks on the economy, unemployment and the debate over Affirmative Action.

That would be an outrageous excuse for this type of violent behavior. There’s simply no excuse for this when it happens. Why is it happening? If you look at the history of civilization, newcomers are always greeted unfavorably by the locals. These black men are simply passing on the same ignorant prejudices that greeted the Irish, German, Catholic, Chinese, and Jewish immigrants that first came to America. In other words, they’re racists.

Gatekeeper Watch: Even TechCruch has succumbed to publishing articles discussing the decline of the mainstream media gatekeepers. Jon Orlin complains that hoaxes are more problematic today because the mainstream media isn’t there to protect us any longer.

This past week, formerly unknown actress Elyse Porterfield fooled millions playing Jenny, the fired Dry Erase girl, in a clever hoax. Right now, I guarantee other pranksters are dreaming up new schemes to fool you again. And journalists, who at one time were tasked with protecting the public from such lies, no longer have the same power to block them.

Club Soda has covered this meme well in the past. I wish I could get a nickel for every time I read an article like this. Liberals liked the status quo because they published nonsense for generations and no one could do anything about it. The reason Rush Limbaugh is so popular is because in 1990 the entire press was dominated by the Left. Limbaugh was the only easily accessed source for a conservative viewpoint.

Other than John Stossel, who is doing real investigative journalism about the inefficiencies of the government? The press isn’t interested in anything except faux objective reporting. “Objective reporting” does nothing except further the agenda of Democrats. That’s why, just like you can always find a cop at a donut shop, there’s sure to be a “journalist” at the proverbial Kinko’s fabricating the next “fake-but-accurate” news story.

Don’t Give into Fear: After using fear to sell the stimulus bill, ObamaCare, financial regulation, and cap and trade President Obama is now urging Americans who will listen to “don’t give into fear.” Then he proceeded to scare people.

On Monday, he warned of reliving a dreadful past, saying Republicans want voters “to be afraid of the future.” “The worst thing we could do is to go back to the very same policies that created this mess in the first place,” Obama said at a fundraiser in Wisconsin. “In November, you’re going to have that choice.”

If we could only relive the dreadful past of 5% unemployment.

Good-bye Cathy: This is probably the greatest news ever. The reign of terror sometimes known as the comic strip Cathy is finally over.

Cathy Guisewite, the strip’s creator, announced on Wednesday that she is ending the popular cartoon’s run, The Associated Press reported. Ms. Guisewite, 59, said that the autobiographical strip has been “the most astonishing form of therapy,” but that her “creative biological clock” was ticking, and she wants to try something else — although isn’t sure what.

Have you ever noticed that the greatest comic strips always end too soon and the mediocre ones live forever? Here’s hoping Pearls Before Swine and Get Fuzzy have a few more great years ahead.

Way Too Early Poll: A poll in Iowa shows former Governor Mike Huckabee leading all other hopefuls. Gulp! There’s not enough Maker’s Mark in the world to wash that pain away.

Time is on Obama’s Side: It’s been known for a while that Time magazine is basically another branch of the White House. The “newsmagazine’s” bias has been on display for a long time, but its ass-kissing has reached an all-time low. When Mark Halperin writes an article entitled, “Obama’s Islamic-Center Stance: Why the GOP Shouldn’t Run Against It,” you can rest assured that the GOP should take the opposite advice.

More Progressive Stupidity

On July 6, 2010, in Immigration, by Henshaw

All he is saying, is give stupidity a chance.

How do you debate with people who clearly think you are evil? This is what I have to ask myself. Why am I evil? I believe that United States immigration laws should be enforced. The state of Arizona experiences the problems of illegal immigration more so than say… Vermont. In Vermont there aren’t many instances of illegals kidnapping, killing, or wrecking into people.

In a previous life I was a musician. I guess I should say I still am a musician; I just gave up the idea of doing it professionally. The worst part of being a musician is listening to stupid musicians. Most “artists” are bleeding heart brain-dead morons. Maybe that’s why I wasn’t successful (I jest). It’s easy to ignore these people, but even the music news outlets are terrible. For example:

Pretty much everyone on the Left agrees that Arizona’s tough new immigration law SB 1070 is evil, racist, and terrifying.

That’s the latest from Pitchfork which is an independent music website. Are immigration laws racist by default? I wonder how many of these so called “progressives” would remain so willfully ignorant if they had a loved one killed by an uninsured illegal immigrant in a car accident. Conor Oberst is now boycotting the state of Arizona. For those that don’t know who Conor Oberst is, he’s a somewhat popular independent singer/songwriter. He “feels things.” Feeling is the most important part of being a liberal. Here is how Oberst feels about me:

“The only thing, clearly, that these people care about is Money and Power, that and the creation and preservation of an Anglo-Centric Police State where every Immigrant and Non-White citizen is considered subhuman. They want them stripped of their basic human rights and reduced to slaves for Corporate America and the White Race.  They are engaged in blatant class warfare.  It is evil, pure and simple.”

Hipster dufus, say what? If Arizona is trying deport illegal immigrants from the country how is that promoting slavery? I’m not sure people like Conor Oberst actually believe in America. Sure, they get warm fuzzy feelings during Independence Day, but that’s only if there’s a liberal in the White House. That feeling only lasts for a few minutes. I truly believe people who think this way (generalizing for sure) don’t care if there are open boarders. They believe in a collective humanity where anything goes.

Of course, they really don’t believe in that, but they would like to feel like they do. Whatever the hell that means. The willfully ignorant left doesn’t have a logical plan for immigration besides legalizing a built-in Demcoratic voter bloc. Simply stating that opponents of illegal immigration are racists is like calling those who oppose murderer anti-choice. Wait, wait, wait…  did that just happen?

Soccer is Politics

On June 26, 2010, in Immigration, Politics, Sports, by club soda

Soccer is to sports as boycotting Arizona is to politics. All of the sudden, lots of people are ignorantly jumping on those respective bandwagons simply because they’ve been told it’s hip and cosmopolitan to do so.

What is soccer, really, but Barbie foosball on grass?

The nation is inexplicably caught up in both World Cup and Boycott Arizona fever. Even citizens in our extreme northern regions, who are normally high on hockey, are packing bars and making official statements about Arizona’s immigration law. They may not know exactly where Arizona is or what a yellow card represents, they just know it’s cool to watch the World Cup and call Arizona a racist, fascist state.

Just today I picked up a six-pack of delicious Sunshine Wheat beer and the proprietor asked me if my purchase was made in preparation for today’s World Cup games. I mumbled something about foosball and got the hell out of there. Sometimes I feel like Will Smith in I Am Legend.

This is simply another sign of the coming Apocalypse, but it also shows how the nation’s education system has betrayed entire generations. Busily teaching multi-cultural sensitivity and relativism, rather than logic and the three Rs, our schools are churning out hyper-ecumenical adults who don’t even know what ecumenical means, much less that soccer sucks or how to read words printed on a piece of legislation.

There really are true soccer fans in the U.S., but most are of the faux-fan persuasion. With all due respect, the true fans are certainly misguided, but it must be frustrating to have been infected with this disorder for years and years only to find their abnormal world suddenly populated with legions of USA/gooooooaaaaal-chanting know-nothings.

The White House says Arizona Senator Jon Kyle is a liar for claiming that President Obama is in favor of amnesty for illegal immigrants. It would be nice if the White House could be honest for once. Transparency is a goal this administration will never achieve. Now Obama’s Labor Department is worried about “fair wages” for illegal immigrants:

This is so idiotic I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, it’s illegal for companies to hire illegal immigrants. Shouldn’t we be more concerned that companies are hiring illegal immigrants? Personally, I’m not worried about the “exploited workers” since they moved here illegally and are obviously fine with being “exploited.” If I was an illegal immigrant the last thing I’m going to do is call the Federal government.

The nation is facing the worst recession is two decades and this administration seems more worried about illegal alien wages than about cracking down on illegal immigration. How does President Obama expect anyone to believe Senator Kyl is lying when the Labor Department is creating videos like that?

Update: Apparently Senator Kyl is backing off his remarks. It doesn’t change the content of this post, but it should be noted.
