Liberalism’s Heart of Darkness

On July 29, 2011, in Fascism, by club soda

The rhetoric from the so-called Progressive left has become progressively poisonous. It is difficult to fathom that one would write or say, let alone think, the disgusting, profane things said and written by leftists about conservatives, particularly conservative women and minorities.

Palin and Bachman are evil bitches and C words, held up as effigies of a particularly degrading form of politicized propaganda. Black conservatives are Uncle Toms who have somehow betrayed their race, simply because they think their race is better than the condescending white guilt that treats them as if they were idiotic children.

This dehumanizing objectification has become the defining tactic of the left; there is no logical defense available for leftist ideology, thus it sinks to the lowest depths of depravity to make its point, such as it is.

The ridiculous coexist bumper sticker

When fascism comes to America it will be driving a Prius with a COEXIST bumper sticker.

Witness the Tweets Henshaw regurgitates here in all their glory, and then the righteous indignation, accompanied by profanity and insults, when the Tweeter finds their Tweet at The Daily Plunge. Also witness the commentary on leftist sites like Daily Kos and The Huffington Post. Offensive comments are not relegated to the left side of the blogosphere, but the sheer volume of mean-spirited, ugly commentary is somewhat shocking.

Then again, maybe this is not so shocking. Years ago as an idealistic college student I was attracted to liberalism based on its professions of tolerance and open mindedness. Enthusiasm soon dissolved into disillusionment.

Oddly enough, one of my epiphanies came during an MTV News report on a pro-choice concert headlined by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was rather jarring to me that a rock band with a fairly large collection of misogynist songs in its repertoire would be “pro woman.” Then it dawned on me that being pro-choice is not pro-woman at all. It’s another way to degrade women and to tell them that they’re too stupid and immoral to make a right choice before conception.

For some reason, the left embraces an ideology that basically says we’re not much better than animals, and thus need to be treated as such. This is one of the founding principles of the Progressive movement, from its early years as it dabbled in eugenics to its modern-day insistence that man is not a special creation, endowed by his creator with certain inalienable rights.

This is an important area of separation between right and left. If rights are endowed by the creator, government has no real right to either grant them or take them away. However, if rights are endowed by your fellow man, they become arbitrary and subject to the whims of those in power. Moreover, if I am endowed by my creator, I have individual worth, regardless of my views. But if I am just another animal, a parasite on Mother Earth, then it’s easier to make me one of “them” and thus expendable.

Ultimately, what I found was that liberalism was neither tolerant nor open-minded. In fact, liberalism, in its post-modern sense, is not liberal at all; it is totalitarian. This becomes increasingly clear as one samples the vast media landscape of leftist voices, from the anonymous comments at The Daily Kos to the rants of Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Keith Olbermann, Janeane Garofalo, et al.

They do not respectfully disagree; they demonize anyone who disagrees with them. They aim to take away the very humanity of their opponents, an ancient and effective means of politics that has sometimes led to genocide.

This is yet another reason I believe in limited government. I do not want to be subject to the whims of people who hold such contempt for others in their heart, a contempt that borders on inhumanity. The great massacres of the 20th Century were perpetrated largely by dehumanizing and degrading those being murdered so that the majority of people would simply look away as the atrocities were committed.

The defining characteristic of genocidal regimes is that all real power is concentrated in the central State; all else is subordinate. While I’m obviously concerned about the totalitarian leanings of the left, someone on the left may be concerned about a theocracy. Fair enough, but all of us, left and right, should advocate for a limited federal government because when all power resides in the federal government, we’re all screwed.

Rick Perry Crazy Tweets

On July 26, 2011, in Blogosphere, Politics, by Henshaw

It’s that time again. I love reading crazy tweets. Today’s topic is racism. We’ll hear a lot about racism over the course of the next 15 months. Opposing President Obama’s reelection automatically means you’re a racist. Well, that’s what morons will be saying. Brace yourself, this is going to be the ugliest election in my lifetime.

Rick Perry said as a "States Rights supporter" that term is so FUCKING racist! "STATES RIGHTS?!"
@Mr_Sokoya
Signore Sokoya

States rights are racist kind of like how oxygen is racist or my toothbrush. I’ve seen the way my toothbrush looks at people. I can tell. Everything is racist is the new racism.

Texas governor Rick Perry is crushing his state with racist teaparty ideas & laws that protect the interests of rich conservatives.
@freedommary
Mary Burrowes

I’m tired of the rich myth. Two-thirds of the super-rich voted for Obama in the last election. The elite in this nation vote for Democrats. I’m not sure why this myth continues, but two thirds of people who make over $30 million a year voted for Obama in 2008.

Rick Perry is an asshole, Jon Stewart should be president, and I'm voting for Ron Paul.

I haven’t figured out the Ron Paul people. A lot of them are confused. For example, Ron Paul and Jon Stewart pretty much disagree on every policy issue. Jon Stewart is a liberal even though he tries to convince himself he’s a moderate. Sadly, that’s why viewers like this guy are all over the political map.

When Intelligence Attacks

On January 17, 2011, in Blogosphere, Politics, by Henshaw

One major misconception about intelligent people is that they’re smart. Just because someone has a Ph.D after their name doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve very smart. Sometimes, they’re probably just trying too hard. If I spent the last ten years going to school instead of working a full time job and funding the ever increasing welfare state I could have a Ph.D by now.

Today I’m singling out David Banks. Who is that you may ask? No one, but today he fired off this tweet to Andrew Breitbart.

DA_Banks: @andrewbreitbart I had a bad morning, and hating on you is sort of like praying: nothing’ll happen but it makes me feel better. F*** you. [Edited]

I’m not sure what it is that makes people so deranged about politics. There are many people in this world with whom I disagree, but I won’t feel anything telling Whoopi Goldberg she’s crazy for her laissez-faire view of rape. In Mr. Banks’ defense most of his tweets are fairly harmless; however, on January 7 he wrote this gem:

DA_Banks: Today we can say that @sarahpalinusa killed a woman in Arizona in 2011.

The left’s deranged attacks on Palin are common knowledge, but it’s still fascinating that minutes after the tragedy many people on the left’s first thought was, “How is Sarah Palin involved?” The infamous crosshair nonsense was being circulated right after the shooting was broadcast on the news. That means the moment that some leftie found out that a Democrat had been shot they found any way possible to tie it to Sarah Palin.

Mr. Banks never followed his Palin tweet with any remorse. In fact, the next day he tried to give Palin some advice. The truth is how can you take someone like Mr. Banks seriously? Here’s a person telling a prominent politician to  refrain from “glorifying violence” while at the same time blaming said politician for a murder. I’m sorry Mr. Banks. You might eventually get a Ph.D, but you have a lot to learn before anyone takes your views on politics seriously.

Update: As you can imagine when David Banks had his tweet retweeted by Andrew Breitbart he received a lot of messages. Mr. Banks was able to put it all in perspective.

DA_Banks: I said that to @andrewbreitbart b/c he uses his whole feed as a frame to make leftists look crazy. And you all just eat it up.

What?! Breitbart makes leftists look crazy? I’m sorry Mr. Banks, you’re doing a fantastic job all by yourself.

bailing out newspapers

On September 20, 2009, in Politics, by Henshaw

Conservatives love to complain about the media. I’m as guilty of it as anyone. Media bias is real, but I should add how much better things are now than they were twenty years ago. Before the internet and cable news the only source for information came from the big three networks and big city newspapers. Over 75% of journalists vote for the Democratic Party so it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to decipher a liberal bias no matter how objective the press tries to be. However, things have changed.
Part of the reason the left is so outraged by Foxnews and talk radio is because they loved the status quo. Foxnews is the outcome of the free market. Conservatives were tired of liberal news and Fox filled the void. MSNBC has made a similar move for ratings. I’m not sure if this is a negative development. If people want to be closed minded and get their news from a single source I can’t see how this is worse than the 60s.
There’s a lot to be learned about President Obama, but it does appear he has a thin skin when it comes to dissent. When faced with real problems with his vague proposals, ludicrous Czar appointments, and other police issues he tends to blame the “blogosphere” for lying. There’s no question misinformation exists but that’s not the president’s problem. He should be more concerned with his own loose grip on facts. The death of old media is of great concern to Democrats. It appears the President is open to bailing out newspapers.

“I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,” he said.

If these newspapers become non-profit 501(c)(3) corporations they will have to remain objective to keep their tax status. Who is going to decide what’s objective? I certainly do not believe that we can have a free and independent press if the government is looking over editors’ shoulders.
Why do liberals believe bureaucrats are noble and businessmen are evil? Without delving into a whole philosophic inspection of the nature of mankind I argue that neither is noble; however, if I chose not to shop at Walmart they can’t use the power of the state to force me to purchase their products. Isn’t Vladimir Putin clamping down on the Russian press in order to “put stories in context.” I wonder if Obama is starting to completely lose touch with reality or if he really is a statist. I’m sure we’ll be writing more about this subject in the future.

Mentally Ill Bloggers

On July 18, 2009, in Blogosphere, by Henshaw

Here’s another chapter in my blogosphere series. As I said yesterday I know people like this are on the fringes of the political spectrum; however, they’re not that uncommon. Obviously I care about what’s been going on in Washington the past 16 plus years, but I have never said to myself “I’m beside myself in despair.”

I was introduced to Mark Morford during the nightmare of the Bush/Cheney or is it the Cheney/Bush administration’s HELLISH 8 year reign. His articles with all its sarcastic truthisms helped me survive during those dark days. After the 2004 horrendous election when the unthinkable of all unthinkables happened and the lunatics occupying our highest house of authority were given 4 more years to wreck havoc. When Bush/Cheney and their minions, smirked at the cameras, I was beside myself in despair.

When I read stuff like that I’m not so surprised that only 38% of Democrats claim to have excellent mental health. If a person is in the depths of despair over an election it’s likely they don’t handle personal problems very well either. It’s funny to read stuff like this, but it’s frightening to meet people who think like this; they should be avoided at all costs.

My ire isn’t just towards the crazies on the left. There’s no shortage of insane blogging on the right. I’m particularly facincated by people obsessed with Obama’s birth certificate. Here’s an example from the aptly named blog Against Barack Obama.

I know; this suspicion, this question about whether Barack Hussein Barry Soetoro Obama was actually born in the United States — as the Constitution explicitly demands — has been circulating for months, since before he won the election last November. He, or somebody in his confidence, posted a supposed copy of a Hawaiian “Certification of Live Birth,” or COLB, on his presidential campaign Web site — even though a COLB, under Hawaiian rules, does not necessarily prove in-state birth. Some found the document, which does not list the hospital of birth or attending physician, to be fake.
Since then, a widely known and experienced investigator, Dr. Jerome Corsi, flew to Kenya in search of a certificate of birth he had reason to believe existed there. But he was detained and stonewalled by Kenyan officials. He couldn’t obtain confirmation — but received no denial. He was just ordered to leave the country.
During that same time, some reported seeing a videotaped proclamation by his paternal step-grandmother that she was in the delivery room and saw Barack H. Obama born in Mombasa, in what is now Kenya!

Let’s just indulge this fantasy for a moment. What if Obama wasn’t really born in the United States? What would happened? This scenario gives me nightmares because if that happened Joseph Robinette “Joe” Biden, Jr. would become president. I have major problems with Obama, but Biden would be a complete disaster in the White House. I’m not exactly sure what people hope to accomplish by “finding the truth.” It’s just something abstract to obsess over that has nothing to do with the real issues the nation faces. The internet is great tool for finding information, but sometimes it allows the crazies to find each other. That’s not always such a great thing for the country.

super serial: liberal blogosphere

On July 17, 2009, in Blogosphere, by Henshaw

Over the past few weeks I’ve become a frequent user of Digg. It’s an excellent way to keep up with the news and track the pulse of the nation. I won’t bore anyone with the details on how the site works, but it’s worth checking out. Today I noticed a comment on a story that I found annoying. In the comments section of a recent Patrick Buchanan article, Digg user Mohner left the following comment:

Buried for the usual right-wing paranoia and racist hatred of the first black president in U.S. history. Buried with Prejudice! (hey, a pun!).

Talk about misplaced paranoia; this is probably going to be the most frustrating aspect of this administration. For whatever reason some members of the left are unable to conjure up an argument defending their party’s policies. Instead, anyone who is critical of the president is just a simple racist. The Daily Plunge has documented Janeane Garofalo using this same weak argument. Let me get back to Mohner… I looked up some of his recent comments and at least he’s consistent. Here are some of Mohner’s greatest hits…

Perhaps half of the reasons wingnuts (like you) hate Obama is because of his race. This level of hatred was not around for Clinton, or Gore, or any other white progressive president/VP/pol. That’s what feeds Rush/Beck/Hannity, etc. : White male inadequacy in the face of a changing nation, led by a popular black president.

This covers most of the bases. Mohner seems obsessed with race, especially for a white guy. How do I know he’s white you might ask? Well, if the picture is indeed Mohner he looks white. He’s even riding a bike; who said all stereotypes were wrong? As far as the president’s popularity is concerned, this is a liberal myth that I’ve written about extensively. Obama is currently as “popular” as Bush circa January 2005.

What the %$#& does your comment have to do with the topic?

This is my personal favorite because it’s about global warming. It looks like Mohner had a complete meltdown here and, of course, here comes the profanity. Yes, I know I’m picking on poor Mohner; it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. However, he does the same thing when he comments on insane posts by crazy people who still believe Obama wasn’t born in the United States. It seems like all conservatives are guilty by association, just like Mohner is 3 degrees from not only Kevin Bacon and the 9/11 truthers, Tom Harkin, but Tom Harkin.
In the end Mohner just represents the while male liberal who loathes his own country every time there’s not a Democrat in the White House. American exceptionalism is replaced by a moral relativism where each achievement is replaced by a Debbie Downer comment. The Founding Fathers had slaves, General Sherman starved the Indians, FDR ignored lynching in the South, and so on so forth. It makes me wonder, in a world where the government has never done a good thing why is it that the government is the solution to every problem? This mental dichotomy is what makes some progressives so entertaining.

Bush is Worse than Saddam

On November 5, 2006, in Blogosphere, by Henshaw

Tonight I’m starting a new category at The Daily Plunge. Thanks to our glorious Constitution people can say whatever thanks to the Freedom of Speech. This right is one of the bedrocks of our Republic. Thanks to the blogosphere people all over the United States are voicing opinions from all viewpoints. A quick search on Technorati and a person can find all kinds of angles on a subject. It is amazing what people are willing to believe and I’m going to start highlighting some on the fringe of rational thought. Today I did a search on Saddam Hussein and here is my favorite opinion voiced on the American Palestinian New Generation blog.

American Palestinian New Generation

As much as you might despise and hate Saddam Hussein (as if we even know the man..) you ought to despise GWB even more because he is everything that Saddam is said to be, with not a whit of dignity. Bush and his frontmen are photo opportunists, posing in uniform or clenching their jaw as if they mean business. Inside they are hollow men without a moral compass and more despicably, with no shame.

What I really love about the quote above is the tagline for the aforementioned blog. The tag is “‘Mankind are governed more by their feelings than by reason,’ Samuel Adams.” It’s not clear if the blog author Salah Al-Dien is talking about everyone else by using that quote, but it’s perfect for the blog. There’s not a bit of reason used in that blog entry, and Al-Dien has all the symptoms of Bush Derangement Syndrome. It is textbook example of emotionalism gone horribly wrong. Although it is not surprising considering the blog links to Al-Jazeera and The Guardian.

Honorable mention goes to the author of the Political Bashing blog who believes Bush takes advice “from people who wish to turn America into a theocracy like Iran (except it would be based on Christian-Judeo values).” This idea is simply so ignorant I’m surprised it still continues to persist. I would like to close this by adding I am not lumping these crazies in with the Left. There is no doubt insanity on both sides and I’ll highlight that from time to time.
