It’s becoming more and more difficult to take anyone on the left seriously. During the build up to the war in Iraq the left’s position against the conflict could be justified. It was a somewhat perfectly logical argument. What is the left’s logical argument about reducing the national debt? They don’t have one and they look like idiots.
The new rallying cry on the left is to oppose the Republican budget. I should say the “idea of a Republican budget” since no one on the left seems to know the details. Speaking of the uninformed, Moby has a new album coming out. What better way to promote it than to hold a hunger strike to protest the Republican budget. Here’s a video that features Moby’s new song and a slide show of people who never took economics classes. By the way, comments are disabled. No need for a free exchange of ideas during a hunger strike.
MoveOn.org helped create this idiotic masterpiece. Moby is outraged because the budget gives tax breaks to corporations and millionaires, and it hurts people. Is anything better than a shallow, illogical talking point cited by a barely famous musician? Yes, when a shallow, illogical talking point is promoted by an idiotic marketing stunt that’s backed by an organization funded by a European born billionaire. Hooray for the little guy! What is it that these bleeding hearts really want?
I’m starting to believe the left wants universal poverty. That’s where we’re headed. If the country goes bankrupt and our economy collapses we will all struggle to make ends meet. That’s the reality. Raising taxes isn’t going to solve the problem. Cutting defense isn’t going to solve the problem. It’s puzzling to me that the left is so willing to believe the world is in peril due to Global Warming, but a real man-made budget crisis could leave us all poor and destitute.
Also, why aren’t these same people who protested the Iraqi conflict up in arms about what we’re doing in Libya? Shouldn’t these pacifists be in the streets protesting because we’re bombing Libya for apparently no reason, with no UN authorization, for the behest of European oil interests? They’re hypocrites. Here’s a journal entry on Moby’s website from 2003.
ok, let’s talk about the war in iraq, and one of the more salient issues. the issue that i’d like to talk about is not whether saddam hussein was a bad man (he was/is). the issue is not whether iraq was a dictatorship (it was/is). the issue is why we went to war. we went to war because the bush administration said that saddam hussein had weapons of mass destruction and because the bush administration said that iraq was supporting al qaeda and because the bush administration said that iraq was developing nuclear weapons. and, just to be clear, we now know that iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, was not supporting al qaeda, and was not developing nuclear weapons. and, just to be clear, we now know that the bush administration knew these things all along and lied to the american people and to congress about the reasons for waging war against iraq. i know i sound redundant, but i’m trying to make a point… [emphasis added]
Moby is still trying to make a point. His borderline incomprehensible journal quote is a textbook example of tribal knowledge, a.k.a., the phenomenon of the Rationale of the Irrational Rationalist. These emo lefties don’t really believe in anything except to oppose those Christ loving evil Republicans. Moby’s journal has 340 entries that mention Iraq and zero mentioning Libya. There are plenty of entries on Christians. Here’s a great quote:
i’m going out on a theological limb here, but i do think that christ would be 1-anti war 2-anti death penalty 3-anti capitalist 4-pro environmentalism 5-pro programs that help the poor so, not to make a pun, but what the hell? how is it that millions of americans call themselves christians but don’t seem to incorporate any of christ’s teachings into their lives? what do they teach in their churches?
See? It’s not war that is the problem, it’s those hypocritical Christians. Don’t they know that Jesus Christ was a disciple of Karl Marx? Most people don’t know, but right before Jesus spent forty days in the wilderness he posted a YouTube video promoting his wilderness tour. Jesus was concerned that a right-wing Jewish uprising would affect many great Roman funded social programs, like bath houses and vomitoriums. Plus, Jesus had a huge book coming out that he had to promote. Jesus knows a thing or two about publicity.
Seriously though, hating on Christians isn’t anything new. However, we should always remember who the most charitable members of our society are and they’re not on the left. Conservatives donate more time and money to charity than liberals. Conservative families also make less money on average than liberals; however, liberals will continue to “feel more” and “think less” about their arguments. Moby, Christians aren’t the hypocrites you should be worried about. “Judge not, that ye be not judged.”
Here is a quote by President Obama from January 10, 2010:
“We’re not going to be able to do anything about any of these entitlements if what we do is characterize whatever proposals are put out there as, ‘Well, you know, that’s — the other party’s being irresponsible. The other party is trying to hurt our senior citizens. That the other party is doing X, Y, Z.”
And, here is a quote from President Obama’s speech yesterday:
“One vision has been championed by Republicans in the House of Representatives and embraced by several of their party’s presidential candidates…This is a vision that says up to 50 million Americans have to lose their health insurance in order for us to reduce the deficit. And who are those 50 million Americans? Many are someone’s grandparents who wouldn’t be able afford nursing home care without Medicaid. Many are poor children. Some are middle-class families who have children with autism or Down’s syndrome. Some are kids with disabilities so severe that they require 24-hour care. These are the Americans we’d be telling to fend for themselves.”
It’s quite apparent that by almost any conceivable measure President Obama has increased the partisanship in Washington. His 2008 election promises were a deception and his speech yesterday was a disgrace to the office.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie quite astutely pointed out a few weeks ago what is so readily apparent about today’s politician in Washington.
“The old playbook says lie, deceive, obfuscate, make it to the next election … What game is being played down here is irresponsible and dangerous.”
Instead of looking at our financial problems in an honest way the President has decided to lie. He doesn’t have a logical plan to offer. It’s obvious that the Democrats don’t have any idea what to do other than raise taxes and cut defense. Doing both will not solve the problem. At this point the Democrats are the problem
Let’s just get this straight… The budget hasn’t been slashed. Every time you read or hear that anywhere on the news it’s written or said by a liberal. This year’s budget is around $700 billion higher than the 2008 budget. Explain to me how it’s possible to “slash the budget” and remain almost a trillion dollars higher than three years ago? Then there’s the willfully ignorant left who is worried we’re cutting too much.
As Obama prepares Wednesday to outline his deficit reduction strategy, liberals worry he’ll embrace Medicare and Medicaid cuts as an olive branch to Republicans in advance of larger fights over the nation’s debt.
The concerns have surfaced after the White House rankled lawmakers on the left by agreeing to a 2011 spending bill that slashes funding for a number of programs long favored by Democrats and embracing a controversial trade agreement with Colombia.
If the Democratic Party wasn’t so committed to infanticide and Planned Parenthood there wouldn’t be an issue. As far as the free trade agreement with Colombia is concerned there’s nothing controversial about it. It’s a shame the Democrats have blocked it for so long. The only controversy is why liberal Democrats so ignorant when it comes to the economic principle of free trade. Willful ignorance? Populist nonsense? Your guess is as good as mine, but this is the same party that continues to back the minimum wage. If ignorance is bliss why are so many liberals so unhappy?
Taste the Savings: It appears that the huge cuts everyone has been boasting about the past few days weren’t all that huge after all (I’m sorry, but shaving $38 billion dollars off a multi-trillion dollar debt is farcical).
“[T]he cuts that actually will make it into law are far tamer, including cuts to earmarks, unspent census money, leftover federal construction funding, and $2.5 billion from the most recent renewal of highway programs that can’t be spent because of restrictions set by other legislation.”
Hot Air has all the details, but I warn you… If you’re depressed about the current fiscal mess news like this isn’t going to make you feel any better. Keep in mind, Democrats are still angry that these cuts are too extreme.
The End is Trump: Some polls are showing that Trump is outpolling people like Huckabee and Romney. This says less about Trump and more about the current GOP field. No sweat though… if Trump doesn’t get the GOP nomination he’ll run as an independent. Is it too late for Charlie Crist to get in the race?
We’re on the Road to Nowhere: You really can’t make this stuff up. During Charlie Crist’s nonsensical run for Senate in Florida his campaign used Talking Heads’ song Road to Nowhere without the permission of David Byrne. Well, it’s all settled now. Part of the settlement is this glorious apology by Crist posted on YouTube for the win!
How awesome is that that Crist used the song Road to Nowhere? Is there any better song that represents his political prospects?
The most depressing part of the whole budget battle in Washington is the left. Even if the Democrats cave to the Republican position on the budget the severe fiscal problems facing the nation aren’t addressed. The Democratic party and most of the people who vote for them are simply in denial. Or maybe they’re simply ignorant. I really don’t have an answer for it.
The main talking points from the left are raise taxes on the rich, cut the defense budget, and that Republicans want people to die. Here is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s take on the situation:
“Republicans want to shut down the government because they think there’s nothing more important than keeping women from getting cancer screenings. This is indefensible and everyone should be outraged,” Reid said on the Senate floor.
How can liberals complain about Rush Limbaugh, FOX news, or Glenn Beck when the Democrat’s leader in the Senate makes such idiotic statements? Reid’s statement is outrageous and detached from reality. Oh, but there’s more. MSNBC professional race baiter Jesse Jackson compares the current debate to the American Civil War.
“[T]his really is a Civil War fight,” Jackson said. “This is making the federal government dysfunctional on the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. These guys will support three wars. They’ll support tax dodgers. They’ll support the wealthiest Americans getting tax breaks. They want to cut into education and health care. This is an ideological battle.”
Jackson said those trying to shut down the federal government are doing so to make an “ideological-religious point.”
“This is a Civil War fight,” he said. “I think Time magazine has it right. This is the 150th anniversary of the 1861 Civil War. Now those are determined to shut the federal government down to make their point — their ideological-religious point.”
It’s it a little odd that a man who calls himself a reverend is talking about an “ideological-religious point?” I wish I could say that I’m picking some random nutjobs on the left, but these are respected liberals who are willing to say whatever it takes to cash in some political points. I don’t think Americans are listening to this garbage any more, but the same cannot be said of the left. The liberal echo chamber is creating a group of willfully ignorant condescending people. They don’t want to debate. They don’t want to be informed. They just want their Utopian worldview justified.
The anti-war left has their talking points: “Bush lied people died,” “Neo-con,” and “Haliburton.” The big government left has their economic talking points: “Reaganomics,” “Voodoo Economics,” “Tax the Rich,” and “The Shrinking Middle-class.” Ask a liberal to explain any of these nonsesnical terms and they’ll change the subject.
If we only taxed the rich more and got rid of our defense department the world would love us, we would have free health care, and every child would be a super genius because they would have free high speed internet. It’s all so dumb, but that’s the reality on the left.
I’m not going to bash National Public Radio. It’s always been a left leaning news organization despite what anyone on the Utopian left believes. NPR receives about ten percent of its funding from taxpayers. It will undoubtedly survive without taxpayer dollars and the Congress should remove the rest of the funding. Even the Tea Party hating Ron Schiller agrees.
The echo chamber people like Ron Schiller live in is amazing. It’s a bizzaro reality. Everyone in the Tea Party is a white, racist, xenophobe, evangelical Christian. It’s odd that people like this so readily generalize a group, but the moment you call NPR listeners a bunch of uninformed, white guilt suffering hipsters suddenly it’s evil to generalize.
Is this move going to significantly change our budget problem? Nope, but that’s not the point. There are millions of things that won’t significantly change the budget, but when you lump them all together it’s a start.
My biggest disappoint about the current Obama administration isn’t the president’s policies. I’m a conservative libertarian. It wasn’t likely I was going to agree with much the President had to offer. When Obama ran for office he branded himself as a new kind of politician. The kind of politician that would shoot straight with the American people. I hoped that Obama would rise to the occasion and embrace honesty. He has fallen pitifully short.
There’s nothing new about Obama. He’s the prototypical politician. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie summed up what I feel in a speech yesterday.
The old playbook says lie, deceive, obfuscate, make it to the next election … What game is being played down here is irresponsible and dangerous.
I’m not sure if Christie is a new kind of politician either, but his statement is correct. Obama has taken to the airwaves to lie about his budget. That’s the nicest way of putting it. The President’s number one priority is to get reelected. He could care less what it takes to achieve that goal. Lying about the budget is a means to an end. Here’s the President’s statement.
“My budget freezes spending for five years, and what that does is it solves the short-term problem by saying, we’re not going to spend any more money than we’re taking in.”
Obama’s claims are insulting to any knowledgeable person. The White House’s own budget tables make it clear that in every year of the President’s budget, the federal government would spend more than it takes in. This isn’t a petty disagreement, it’s the transparent facts.
I realize tackling the fiscal problems this nation faces isn’t going to be popular. Reforming entitlements is going to be a very difficult situation. People are going to have to sacrifice. The federal government can’t deliver on its promise. However, the President seems to be living in denial and unfortunately many on the left are as well.
For the United States to climb out of this hole it’s going to take real leadership. Right now there’s not an abundance of courage in Washington.
