Obviously I’ve made big changes to the layout here. After using Dreamhost the past couple of years I changed hosts to Media Temple. Dreamhost was charging more than what I could get at MT. MT is much a better service.

I’ve also moved the side from Movable Type to WordPress. I stuck with Movable Type as long as I could, but WordPress is just easier to deal with at this point. I’ve spent thousands of hours customizing Movable Type, but I can’t keep it up anymore. Plus, WordPress has an Android App that will make updating the site a breeze on the road.

I’ll make a few more adjustments to the site over the next few weeks. So far I’m very happy with the the change.

Since I upgraded Movable Type to version 4.2 the blogging software has run at a snail’s pace. Speed was a concern I had before I upgraded, but now things are even worse. It’s takes approximately 40 minutes to run a simple site rebuild. There are a series of other quirks I’m dealing with as well. Implementing FastCGI helped a little, but then I started getting a series of 404 errors so I had to go back to regular CGI. It appears my problem is with Dreamhost which is a shame because other than a few random outages they’ve been good. I thought that it might be because I’ve upgraded Movable Type a few times, but I did a test blog from scratch and it took an hour to rebuild. Dreamhost just isn’t good for Movable Type and I don’t believe they have any plans to correct the problem. The site is so slow that I can’t take it anymore. I’m at the end of my annual period so I’m looking for other hosting alternatives. The prospect of rebuilding the site on another host doesn’t make me very happy, but it really can’t be helped.
If anyone stumbles across this entry I’m open to suggestions.
Update 3/8/2009: A small update to my Movable Type issues. I contacted Dreamhost a couple of days ago and they’re going to move my site to a new server. Evidently the site is currently on an older and slower server. Dreamhost has told me the switch will be a bumpy ride, but hopefully it solves the site issues.

I’ve been updating the website this weekend. It’s bee a few years since I upgraded the blogging software. There are a lot of features I’d like to add, but I’m basically having to learn from scratch again. It took all day just to figure out how to add links to the sidebar.
In other news some Senators caved and it looks like the Government Stimulus bill will indeed pass. This just means it’s more likely that our generation will witness our government going bankrupt. Ron Paul has more…

This bill isn’t so much an indictment of the Democrats as it is on the Republicans. The Democrats have always been known as the big government spenders. It’s the principle of their party. The Republicans squandered an amazing opportunity after decades of Democrat rule in Congress. The Republicans just took after the Democrats. Unfortunately the Republicans never enjoyed a large enough majority to get away from moderate rule. Americans who are tired of wasteful spending and corruptions now have no alternative. The nations heads inevitably towards bankruptcy. When the economy bounces back in six months or two years the Democrats will claim they did it. When the country goes bankrupt 5 years or 20 years from now those greedy bureaucrats will be nowhere to be found.
