If Democrats wish to lie, demagogue, and drag Paul Ryan through the mud over the next two years as an election tactic it’s time for him to run for president. The United States has almost reached the point of no return when it comes to our fiscal situation. Right now there’s no one with the courage to address the problem. Our outdated entitlements are unsustainable. If they’re not reformed the nation will go bankrupt, inflation will spiral out of control, and most of the nation will be impoverished.
The Democrats don’t have a plan. Their only strategy is to tear down any idea that involves reform. Just a few weeks ago President Obama delivered his disgraceful remarks about Paul’s plan for reforming entitlements. Politicians are cowards. The most important thing to the Republican and Democratic parties is to strengthen their voting base. If the President was truly concerned about our current fiscal problems he would have offered a plan by now. Obama has been president for three years and he hasn’t outlined anything specific. The only person in Washington talking like an adult is Paul Ryan.
Paul Ryan is also the only politician in the GOP who is capable of effectively communicating what’s in his plan and the problem we’re facing. Currently, the only thing Americans know about the Path to Prosperity are lies propagated by the press, the White House, and the Democratic party. That’s not to say that Ryan’s plan is perfect, but right now there’s nothing else. Ryan’s plan doesn’t balance the budget until after 2060. This is what passes for an extreme plan? It could be argued that Ryan’s plan isn’t aggressive enough. What’s the liberal alternative? If 2060 is extreme are Democrats trying to balance the budget by 2160?
If Paul Ryan doesn’t run for the White House Democrats will effectively campaign against Ryan no matter who the GOP candidate ends up being in 2012. There is only one issue that matters in 2012. It’s reducing our debt and the only way to do it is addressing our entitlement problems. The nation needs a leader who is able to be honest and communicate effectively. Ultimately if the Congress ever gets serious about this issue the Executive Branch has to lead. President Obama is incapable of addressing this problem. He may get reelected, but it will only mean four more wasted years. I’m not sure the nation has much more time to fix this problem.
Paul Ryan needs to run for the good of the country. Not because of his own ambition, not because he has the best chance to win, but because he’s the only one serious about the biggest problem facing the country. If the nation goes bankrupt the American dream may die with it.
Why are potential presidential candidates like Mike Huckabee and Mitch Daniels not running for president? It’s not because the reelection of Obama is a certainty. In 2008, then-candidate Obama received the best media coverage in the modern era. The press couldn’t be bothered to look into the history of the most inexperienced candidate to ever be elected. Does anyone expect the media to relent in 2012? The left has too much invested in the empty suit.
With the White House approaching $1 billion to spend on the 2012 election, who would want to go through that? The press spends considerable time obsessing about Sarah Palin or any other Republican deemed to be a threat to the left. Any potential candidate has to recognize that running against Obama is going to be difficult. John Podhoretz has more:
So why is this happening? Simple. You’ve probably heard that the president and his team are looking to raise $1 billion to run on in 2012. They may make it; they may not. But what is that money to be spent on? He won’t have to spend it in a primary, it looks like. So that means the Obama team will have hundreds upon hundreds of millions of dollars to spend with one object and one object only: Destroy the eventual Republican nominee. Go after him. Drag his name through the mud. Run commercials every 15 seconds in six battleground states in which he removes wheelchairs from Medicare patients and grabs checks from Social Security recipients.
This isn’t speculation. It is a certainty. President Obama doesn’t have a popular legislative record to run an issues-based campaign. Whatever goodwill was left about killing Osama Bin Laden was burned up after Obama’s nationwide victory tour. Think I’m wrong? Why is the Obama campaign digging for dirt on Chris Christie? Christie probably isn’t even going to run for president. Is it really surprising that Mitch Daniels’ wife is apprehensive about her husband running for president?
This really isn’t a shock, but Newt Gingrich is running for president. There are a lot of things that I think are great about Gingrich. He has an excellent understanding of history and he has a lot of great ideas. He’s always been a big idea, think outside of the box type of guy; however, he’s also been thin skinned in the past.
Ultimately Gingrich’s biggest weakness is the fact he doesn’t have executive experience. This wasn’t a barrier to entry for President Obama, but it should have been. Almost everything the President has done has be an unorganized mess. If the country decided to elect another president in 2012 I expect someone with more executive experience will win.
Please Don’t Panic: I’m happy that Homeland Security had gotten rid of the confusing color coded terrorism alert system. It was always a bit of a farce. The new big idea is to send a mass text message to those who are in harm’s way.
A new national alert system is set to begin in New York City that will alert the public to emergencies via cell phones. It’s called the Personal Localized Alert Network or PLAN. Presidential and local emergency messages as well as Amber Alerts would appear on cell phones equipped with special chips and software.
Ah yes, I can see it now. Can you just image the chaos if the government sends a mass text to everyone riding the subway in New York? It would be a huge panic scene. I’m very interested to see how this works. Right now it seems like a good way to start a stampede. Why not just send a mass text to the entire nation that says “FIRE! RUN LIKE HELL!!” This clip below from Seinfeld is how I imagine the system working
Allies? It’s bad enough that Pakistan has nukes and that the nation is full of Islamic fundamentalists. Now they’re thinking about cooperating with the Chinese on the downed helicopter we left after the Osama Bin Laden raid. Apparently the United States’ helicopters are equipped with some kind of anti-detection technology. Obviously China is interested in getting their hands on the technology.
I’m confused as to what the United States policy is on Pakistan. They didn’t help us find Osama Bin Laden after 10 years and we had to invade their nation to take him out without authorization. The U.S. was afraid that someone in the Pakistan government would tip Osama before we got there. It’s been a bad PR week for Pakistan. Handing over this helicopter to the Chinese isn’t going to help things.
RomneyCare/ObamaCare 2012: Mitt Romney is set to give a speech tomorrow on the issue of health care. Romney hasn’t backed down from the health care reform he passed in Massachusetts while he was governor. Going into 2012 this is a huge problem for Romney because RomneyCare looks a lot like ObamaCare. Plus, RomneyCare is having all kind of problems in Massachusetts (shocking).
It doesn’t appear as though Romney is going to back away from his legislative failure. In other words, his candidacy is dead on arrival. President Obama’s most significant legislative achievement is a dismal failure and a dramatic overreach by the federal government. If it’s not overturned by the courts voters are going to going to have it abolished. I’m not sure how Romney can dance around this problem.
Religion of Peace News: Mark Steyn over at The Corner points out the absurdity of the mainstream press when it comes to covering crimes by Islamic extremists.
A 28-year old Yemeni man boards a flight to San Francisco in Chicago, and shortly before landing charges the cockpit while shouting “Allahu Akbar!” Authorities say they “do not yet have a motive.”
By the way, this is from the evil FOX News network. It should be pointed out that when Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was tragically shot a few months ago the press had no problem attaching Sarah Palin to the story. When Jared Lee Loughner started shooting he didn’t yell “you betcha” or “for Palin.” Over the last twenty years the list of attacks that started with “Allahu Akbar!” are too numerous to mention, but the press can’t speculate on a motive unless it’s Sarah Palin.
The biggest casualty during the Obama administration has been the anti-war left. Most of the anti-war left was a fog. It’s like people who play Dungeons and Dragons. They dress up on the weekends, have a good time, and go back to their normal lives. Most of the anti-war left was made up of partisan Democrats who weren’t really upset with war, but angry that there was a Republican in the White House. The wars have continued under new ownership and the hypocrites have gone back to their lives. Yes, they’re still “angry” about Iraq, but their arguments are easy to dismiss.
Noam Chomsky is a true believer in the anti-war dogma. He doesn’t greet the death of Osama Bin Laden as a significant accomplishment. Chomsky just uses it as another excuse to bash President Bush.
We might ask ourselves how we would be reacting if Iraqi commandos landed at George W. Bush’s compound, assassinated him, and dumped his body in the Atlantic. Uncontroversially, his crimes vastly exceed bin Laden’s, and he is not a “suspect” but uncontroversially the “decider” who gave the orders to commit the “supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole” (quoting the Nuremberg Tribunal) for which Nazi criminals were hanged: the hundreds of thousands of deaths, millions of refugees, destruction of much of the country, the bitter sectarian conflict that has now spread to the rest of the region.
Noam Chomsky is a Institute Professor emeritus in the MIT Department of Linguistics and Philosophy. I guess that means he is the ultimate “decider” of what is considered “uncontroversial.” Meanwhile our current President continues to authorize drone attacks in Pakistan and the policy of holding prisoners indefinitely in Guantanamo Bay. Chomsky cannot be bothered by the present when he’s so obsessed with the past.
President Obama will spend the next few weeks (or months) basking in the glow of his accomplishment. Who can blame him? Who can be surprised? This is the President who couldn’t give a normal convention speech and took his campaign to Germany (that sure didn’t work out). Our President is someone who has no trouble talking about himself.
In the grand scheme of things history will look back at President Obama and judge him based on what he did or didn’t do about the nation’s fiscal problems. Obama’s biggest concern isn’t fixing our financial problems. The sole focus of the the Obama administration is getting elected. The power of the incumbency has never been stronger. At what cost? Obama wanted to be Lincoln. Sadly, he’s more like Pierce, Filmore, and Buchanan.
If Obama loses his bid for reelection in 2012 the left will blame it on racism. If Obama wins in a close contest the left will blame racism. That’s how shallow some people on left are when it comes to racism. The left is obsessed with racism. Obama’s problems have nothing to do with his race and everything to do with his amateur leadership. Tavis Smiley has even gone a step further, predicting that 2012 will be “the the ugliest, the nastiest, the most divisive, and the most racist in the history of this Republic.” Only an idiot could make such a statement.
I guess Smiley has forgotten about George Wallace and has no historic knowledge of the election of 1860. Does Smiley really believe this upcoming election is going to be uglier and more divisive than the election that led to a civil war? Is race really that big of a problem today? The nation just elected a president named Barack Hussein Obama who wasn’t even qualified for the office. Race isn’t a major problem when that happens. It’s odd that the same people who drool over Martin Luther King’s famous words that we should not” judge by the color of skin, but by the content of character” are obsessed by the color of skin. Obama’s problem is the content of his agenda, not the color of his skin.
Tavis Smiley and his hate logic are perfectly acceptable for PBS, but Juan Williams is a problem? Give me a break!
Here is a quote by President Obama from January 10, 2010:
“We’re not going to be able to do anything about any of these entitlements if what we do is characterize whatever proposals are put out there as, ‘Well, you know, that’s — the other party’s being irresponsible. The other party is trying to hurt our senior citizens. That the other party is doing X, Y, Z.”
And, here is a quote from President Obama’s speech yesterday:
“One vision has been championed by Republicans in the House of Representatives and embraced by several of their party’s presidential candidates…This is a vision that says up to 50 million Americans have to lose their health insurance in order for us to reduce the deficit. And who are those 50 million Americans? Many are someone’s grandparents who wouldn’t be able afford nursing home care without Medicaid. Many are poor children. Some are middle-class families who have children with autism or Down’s syndrome. Some are kids with disabilities so severe that they require 24-hour care. These are the Americans we’d be telling to fend for themselves.”
It’s quite apparent that by almost any conceivable measure President Obama has increased the partisanship in Washington. His 2008 election promises were a deception and his speech yesterday was a disgrace to the office.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie quite astutely pointed out a few weeks ago what is so readily apparent about today’s politician in Washington.
“The old playbook says lie, deceive, obfuscate, make it to the next election … What game is being played down here is irresponsible and dangerous.”
Instead of looking at our financial problems in an honest way the President has decided to lie. He doesn’t have a logical plan to offer. It’s obvious that the Democrats don’t have any idea what to do other than raise taxes and cut defense. Doing both will not solve the problem. At this point the Democrats are the problem
So it begins… President Obama is kicking off his bid for reelection. The first priority is to get the grassroots fired up. What is going to be Obama’s campaign theme? His presidency has been a failure by almost any measure. The only thing he’s delivered is ObamaCare and even the few people who still support it admit it has to be reformed. Here’s his grassroots video.
In my lifetime there hasn’t been a President as disorganized or so devoid of leadership. I like President Obama, but the last three years have proven he’s not up for the job. His only hope now is that the business cycle saves his presidency. I’m not sure that will even do it. If the President was serious about the economy he wouldn’t have pushed another new entitlement down our throats. He’s had three years to develop an energy policy and has failed. He’s has three years to reduce wasteful spending and has failed.
What is Obama’s big idea? In 2008, he didn’t have one. His campaign was about “change” or as Club Soda put it in 2008 “nothing.” President Obama might be able to convince enough people that the status quo is enough to get reelected, but that says more about the electorate than it does about the man. It’s been four years of flowery speeches and missed opportunities for the President. He doesn’t deserve more time.
President Obama has spent his entire presidency blaming others for his problems. He didn’t invent the practice, but the press never calls him on it. President Reagan didn’t have a friendly press. Here’s a video of Sam Donaldson asking President Reagan if he bore some responsibility for the recession during the early ’80s. Reagan’s answer is classic:
President Obama would be too busy feeling sorry for himself to answer a question as good as that. Obama doesn’t have to worry about a hostile press. Sure, he complains about FOX News, but all the other news outlets are so overcome with Obama adoration they’re unable to report anything negative or really question anything he says.
