Right on cue, Google announced a new Doodle contest today. Google has been doing this for a several years now and I’ve written about it this week. When I read about the new contest something struck me immediately.
Google announced today that it’s launching the fourth annual Doodle 4 Google contest with the theme “What I’d like to do someday…” The contest is open to K-12 students in the U.S.
The winning Doodle will be displayed on Google’s homepage; its creator will receive a $15,000 scholarship, and his or her school will receive a $25,000 technology grant.
“We know this crop of students will be the generation of tomorrow’s leaders and inventors, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with,” Google’s VP of consumer products, Marissa Mayer, wrote in a blog post.
This year’s contest judges will include Whoopi Goldberg, ice skater Evan Lysacek and Jim Davis, the creator of Garfield, and Google employees. The 40 regional finalists will receive a trip to New York City and their art will be displayed at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Whoopi “Rape Rape” Goldberg is going to be a judge in a competition involving children? Is anyone going to call this woman out for her comments? Goldberg argues that the rest of the world sees 13 year old girls differently than the United States. Apparently getting a child drunk and then forcing sex on them is acceptable in Europe? When Goldberg was mocked on Saturday Night Live for her ignorant comments this was her defense:
“Look, Seth Meyers, unlike you we have an early morning show. Basically I just roll out of bed and start talking. Sometimes I don’t even wake up until 45 minutes into the show, unsure of what I said to whom or what or where or even who got me to where I am or how.”
Is this the type of person Google wants to use as a judge for a contest involving children? I hope they make sure Whoopi isn’t carrying any drugs or alcohol when she comes in to judge.
A Hard Day’s Night: Yesterday, Apple promised with a teaser on its website that “tomorrow is just another day. That you’ll never forget.” Sentence structure aside the Apple fanboys were excited. What could Apple have up its sleeve this time around? iTimeTravel? iProphecy? Nope, iLetDown. Guess what? Now you can purchase The Beatles catalog on iTunes. This is exciting news to basically no one. I’ve been listening to The Beatles on my iPod for years now.
He Should Have Blamed Bush: At a Comerica Bank in Naples, Fla., a crazy person named Phil Nguyen intentionally crashed his car into the bank. His reasoning?
Nguyen believed the CIA did this by giving clients at the Naples Grande Beach Resort radiation guns, the report said. He also told police he thought he would die shortly thereafter.
Not so much. The correct answer we were looking for is… President Bush, who is to blame for everything.
As the World’s Climate Changes: The greatest thing about the unproven theory of man-made global warming is that no matter how the climate changes it’s because of CO2. Lately, the world has been experiencing colder winters and no alarming change in worldwide temperatures. What could possibly be causing nothing to happen? You guessed it, global warming.
Climate change could lead to colder winters in northern regions, according to a study by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research on Tuesday.
Vladimir Petoukhov, lead author of the study, said a shrinking of sea ice in the eastern Arctic causes some regional warming of lower air levels and may lead to anomalies in atmospheric airstreams, triggering an overall cooling of the northern continents.
I think it’s the other way around. Change occurs after something changes, not before. Or maybe the Earth has always changed? Is that possible? Is there anything global warming cannot do? It heats, it cools, it rains, it droughts, it doesn’t happen and it happens all at the same time.
Rape Rape: Here’s a video of Whoppi Goldberg explaining her sanctimonious walk-out on The View when Bill O’Reilly happened to point out the 9/11 terrorists were Muslim. This is typical of the intolerant Hollywood left. It seems perfectly reasonable for TV shows to cast all pro-life supporters as insane clinic bombers. There seems to be no outrage at the stereotypical typecasting that all Catholic priests are molesters. Even my new favorite show, The Walking Dead, has a stereotypical Redneck racist and there’s no harm done. It’s hilarious to me that someone like Goldberg who thinks raping a 13 year old girl is no big deal is outraged by a meaningless remark by Bill O’Reilly. I mean, really?
By now pretty much everyone has probably heard about Mel Gibson’s profanity-laced rant directed toward his former girlfriend. When an actor like Gibson has a meltdown like this (see: Alec Baldwin) it’s going to be big news. When the actor mixes in some racial epithets, it’s an even bigger story. In Hollywood pretty much everything is tolerated except racism. I’m not suggesting that people should scoff at racism, but look at how Roman Polanski has been treated by the Hollywood establishment compared to Mel Gibson.
I have written before about some of the unbelievable comments made by people like Whoopi Goldberg about the child rapist Roman Polanski. I have no problem with Mel Gibson being ostracized from pop culture forever, but what about people who think raping thirteen year old girls is no big deal? Say what you want about Gibson, but at least he’s not raping people (yet). Mel Gibson’s career is headed for a major setback and Polanski is free and Hollywood has his back.
Imagine you’re stuck in a life raft with two Oscar-winning directors. One is Roman Polanski and the other is Mel Gibson. The life raft is slowly taking in water and will only support two people. Someone has to get thrown overboard and it’s either Polanski or Gibson. There’s no clear choice based on age or weight. It comes down to personality. The rapist versus the racist.
The easiest way for me to decide in situations like this is, would I trust someone I love with that person? While racism is indeed unsightly and ignorant it’s not quite as invasive as rape. However, it appears that Gibson might be a little violent as well. It’s a tough call. However, as far as I’m concerned, Roman Polanski is a monster. It’s a difficult choice, but I’ll go with Mel Gibson. I just won’t bring up his love life or Jews and I should be fine.
I find it quite astounding that Martin Scorcese, Woody Allen, David Lynch, Wim Wenders, Pedro Almodovar, Tilda Swinton and Monica Bellucci would sign a petition calling for the release of Roman Polanski. If people in Hollywood wonder why people think they’re out of touch with reality there’s no better example than the reaction to Polanski’s arrest. Polanski pled guilty to drugging and raping a 13 year girl in 1978. Polanski fled the country before the sentence could be carried out. Whoopi Goldberg says that it wasn’t “rape rape,” whatever that means.
It’s astonishing and disgusting that anyone would defend this rapist, but there seems to be no end of idiots defending rape.
One celebrity supporter, the actress Debra Winger, said it was a “three-decades-old case that is dead but for minor technicalities. We stand by him and await his release and his next masterpiece.” Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein said Polanski was a “humanist” who had been the victim of a “miscarriage of justice”. He said: “We will have to speak to our leaders, particularly in California. I’m not too shy to go and talk to the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and to ask him once and for all to look at this.”
I guess if a person is perceived a genius director and a “humanist” he gets to drug and rape all the 13-year-old girls he wants. This is beyond the pale. There should be universal outrage. Goldberg should be forced to apologize or be fired from ABC’s The View. She has the freedom to say whatever she wants, but no TV network should pay a personality who downplays the rape of a 13-year-old girl.
As far as the actors, directors, and insiders who signed this petition, it should be a black mark on their otherwise distinguished careers. I know it’s easy to pick on morons, but just read the tweets from Matti Croft. He is one of the countless people who are rushing to defend Polanski.
Matti09: In Cali you can cut your ex wifes head off & go home, or record top #1 hits and molest little white boys & go home- let Roman Polanski go
Matti09: Roman Polanski – Americans should be concerned with Public Option not 30 yr old cases… Ridiculous
Matti09: If Roman Polanski was a black football star or a black king of pop, would this even be of any concern! NO!!!
Matti09: 13 year old woman isn’t a child!
When I responded to the idiot I predictably got an idiots response.
Matti09: @DailyPlunge – Better be careful you would want to get trouble! That woman knew what she was doing! SEDUCTION! She got paid by settlement!
Matti09: @DailyPlunge – Know your facts be for you open your $%#@&%$ mouth!
I guess I’m a little surprised that pedophilia is acceptable to many people. The girl was raped so it wasn’t even consensual. In this case the girl’s age is irrelevant. To defend Polanski means that after 30 years rape of any kind should be a forgivable offense.
Today I was reading the horrible story in the New York Times about prison rape in Iran. It’s been a problem for a long time and largely ignored by the state of Iran. This isn’t very surprising; Iran turns a blind eye toward a lot of human rights violations. The Times discusses how young women are raped prior to execution so they “don’t go to heaven.” It’s a very disgusting practice.
At the end of the story are the usual comments, and that’s where the self-loathing begins.
Those who try to picture America as high on the horse of morality are fools that are being led blind by their low instincts, not civility. Let’s stop trying to diabolize others, when here, we are worst that all the Arabs put together. Their capacity to do evil is not as big as ours, ergo, evil didn’t meet evil until it met us. — Fathertime4
Why do some members of the left hate the United States so much? This story has nothing to do with the United States but most of the comments are from leftists complaining about the United States. If the United States is so horrible why are these clowns in favor of larger government?
Guess what, the U.S. is not the becon on the hill in terms of human rights or democracy anymore. We advocate prisoner rape, torture, and hold suspects indefintely without due process or the right to challenge evidence against them. The becon on the hill torch has been passed to progressive northern European nations (Canada?). Human rights must apply to all if they are to apply to anyone. The biggest shame for me is the fact that we have to explain away our endorsement of abuse. — James
The United States advocates prisoner rape and torture? I guess if this is a person’s worldview I could understand why someone would hate the U.S. It’s a ridiculous statement by any stretch of the imagination. These self-loathers all need to take a class on and in reality. This isn’t a perfect world and there are no perfect countries. Liberals have perfected the the faux parallel. Governor Mark Sanford is a scumbag who cheated on his wife, so he shouldn’t be in public office. President Clinton is absolved because Thomas Jefferson slept with his slave. Senator Helms was a terrible politician because he was from North Carolina and he must be racist. Senator Kennedy was a saint, and if you want to talk about manslaughter don’t forget Laura Bush. Oh yeah, Senator McCain lied about being a POW.
Why haven’t liberals used this same standard for the country they live in? The United States isn’t perfect, but neither are the Germans, Japanese, French, English, and Italians. The sin of slavery didn’t start in the United States. Racism isn’t just an American problem. What is the model nation for these liberals? The closest I can come to is My Little Pony Land, but the land would end up decimated in a long and bloody war when the ponies were forced to live under the rule of a bunch of left-wing Utopian wackoes.
