Trump Derangement Syndrome

On April 23, 2011, in Politics, by Henshaw

Bad hair? Yes. Racist? Not so sure. Future president? No way.

I haven’t really written about Trumpmania. It all seems so pointless. The press loves it because the press loves embarrassing GOP candidates for president. Since there really isn’t a race for the nomination yet Trump gets all the air time. Donald Trump the Republican is kind of like Charlie Crist the Republican except Crist was a more devout GOPer until last year. That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of Trump’s conservative credentials.

Anyway, it’s far too early for me to be ripping Donald Trump. Trump is a publicity hound. He’s always been a shameless promoter of the Trump brand. “Running for president” is a sure fire way to get noticed. I have a feeling, though, that if Trump had pulled this stunt in 2004 and ran against Bush he’d be greeted a lot differently. Take TechCrunch contributer Paul Carr, for example. He just dedicated an entire post to Donald Trump on a technology website. Here’s how Carr opens:

Let me start of by reiterating how much I hate Donald Trump.

Hate is, of course, a strong word. But then again so are “liar”, “crypto-racist” and “criminally-irresponsible publicity whore”. And there can be fewer more hateful blots on the current landscape of American politics than that of Trump – looking for all the world like a pugnacious Oompa-Loompa with a comb-over – dog whistling to the racist “birther” movement in order to promote his crappy reality TV show.

Wow! This might be the first full blown case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Carr’s logic is weak and irrational: Trump is a racist because he’s a birther? What about the people who questioned McCain’s citizenship? Are they racists too? Or, even worse, agists? One of the most annoying aspects of the Obama years is that any criticism of the President, either real or imagined, is simply dismissed as racist by the white guilt suffering left.

Billy Graham's slimy son semi-endorses Trump, proving again that he's a racist & Mrs. Graham should have had at least 1 more abortion

My roommate just told me how fast he would vote for Donald Trump if he ran for office. One word..... #racist

Newsflash for those of us still unsure about this: the birthers are racists. Donald Trump is a racist. Got it?

#Trump is a racist. Fuck him and his hair.

Being a “birther” is many things. It’s not smart. There’s no evidence. It’s a lot like all those liberals who are still convinced to this day that Gore won Florida despite numerous recounts. Or what about all those crazy “truthers” who believe Bush had something to do with 9/11? Or what about the liberals who are convinced that Iraq was a war over oil, but are apathetic over the oil conflict in Libya. These people aren’t racists, agists or Texanists… they’re just not very smart. There are plenty of ignorant people on both the left and right.

There’s nothing new about Donald Trump. It’s a big promotional push, but what about Paul Carr? Why is Carr writing on a technology site about hating Trump? Carr should stick to writing about subjects on which he’s an expert and leave the political stuff to people who can form logical, reality based points.

True Ignorance is Bliss

On March 14, 2011, in Blogosphere, Politics, by Henshaw

Back in December I wrote about the issue of Net Neutrality. It’s a complex issue. This is unfortunate because it means most people don’t understand it and the danger of government intervention. This is especially true on the left. I’ve noticed over the past years that the reason the left doesn’t understand that their view of government is unsustainable is because they think that if we simply raised taxes and cut defense we could pay for all of their pet programs.

It’s unfortunate that economics isn’t taught in high school and it’s even worse that Americans are ignorant when it comes to our budget. TechCrunch posted an interview with Senator Al Franken about the issue of Net Neutrality. I’d rather be water-boarded than listen to Al Franken talk about anything other than comedy. His greatest comedic act is convincing the voters of Minnesota to elect him. When I pointed out that government regulation has never improved a complex market for consumers I got a lot of angry replies. Here’s my favorite:

Uno Veski: @Henshaw – man you are truely ignorant and sound like a Glenn Beck mouthpiece. Read up on what Utopians are and what American Capitalism is.

There’s something special about being called “truly ignorant” by someone who misspells truly. I also love how I’m lumped in with Glenn Beck and FOX News though I never watch either Beck or FOX. This FOX paranoia on the left is hilarious. That was part of Uno Veski’s second reply. Here’s the end of the first:

Uno Veski: Peolple like Henshaw are truely ignorant, anti-American, and represent the danger going on not just in American democracy, but world-wide.

I would argue that Uno Veski is misguided or uninformed. I don’t think he’s dangerous, but it makes me wonder what would happen if a person like Veski got in power. If what I believe is really a danger to the entire world shouldn’t I be locked up? Shouldn’t we all be a little wary of groups who are convinced their opposition is evil?

Blame Arizona: When eight young black men violently beat up a Hispanic man for no apparent reason, leave it the Associated Press to speculate. What could possibly be the reason for the violence?

Residents of Port Richmond – where an influx of newcomers from Latin America over the past decade has transformed the community – alternately blame the attacks on the economy, unemployment and the debate over Arizona’s immigration law.

And although most of the suspects were described as young black men and investigated for bias crimes, a grand jury has indicted only one of seven people arrested on a hate-crime charge.

Just for a minute let’s imagine if a group of white men beat up a black man. Would the Associated Press write:

Residents of Port Richmond – where an influx of newcomers from Africa over the past decade has transformed the community – alternately blame the attacks on the economy, unemployment and the debate over Affirmative Action.

That would be an outrageous excuse for this type of violent behavior. There’s simply no excuse for this when it happens. Why is it happening? If you look at the history of civilization, newcomers are always greeted unfavorably by the locals. These black men are simply passing on the same ignorant prejudices that greeted the Irish, German, Catholic, Chinese, and Jewish immigrants that first came to America. In other words, they’re racists.

Gatekeeper Watch: Even TechCruch has succumbed to publishing articles discussing the decline of the mainstream media gatekeepers. Jon Orlin complains that hoaxes are more problematic today because the mainstream media isn’t there to protect us any longer.

This past week, formerly unknown actress Elyse Porterfield fooled millions playing Jenny, the fired Dry Erase girl, in a clever hoax. Right now, I guarantee other pranksters are dreaming up new schemes to fool you again. And journalists, who at one time were tasked with protecting the public from such lies, no longer have the same power to block them.

Club Soda has covered this meme well in the past. I wish I could get a nickel for every time I read an article like this. Liberals liked the status quo because they published nonsense for generations and no one could do anything about it. The reason Rush Limbaugh is so popular is because in 1990 the entire press was dominated by the Left. Limbaugh was the only easily accessed source for a conservative viewpoint.

Other than John Stossel, who is doing real investigative journalism about the inefficiencies of the government? The press isn’t interested in anything except faux objective reporting. “Objective reporting” does nothing except further the agenda of Democrats. That’s why, just like you can always find a cop at a donut shop, there’s sure to be a “journalist” at the proverbial Kinko’s fabricating the next “fake-but-accurate” news story.

Don’t Give into Fear: After using fear to sell the stimulus bill, ObamaCare, financial regulation, and cap and trade President Obama is now urging Americans who will listen to “don’t give into fear.” Then he proceeded to scare people.

On Monday, he warned of reliving a dreadful past, saying Republicans want voters “to be afraid of the future.” “The worst thing we could do is to go back to the very same policies that created this mess in the first place,” Obama said at a fundraiser in Wisconsin. “In November, you’re going to have that choice.”

If we could only relive the dreadful past of 5% unemployment.

Good-bye Cathy: This is probably the greatest news ever. The reign of terror sometimes known as the comic strip Cathy is finally over.

Cathy Guisewite, the strip’s creator, announced on Wednesday that she is ending the popular cartoon’s run, The Associated Press reported. Ms. Guisewite, 59, said that the autobiographical strip has been “the most astonishing form of therapy,” but that her “creative biological clock” was ticking, and she wants to try something else — although isn’t sure what.

Have you ever noticed that the greatest comic strips always end too soon and the mediocre ones live forever? Here’s hoping Pearls Before Swine and Get Fuzzy have a few more great years ahead.

Way Too Early Poll: A poll in Iowa shows former Governor Mike Huckabee leading all other hopefuls. Gulp! There’s not enough Maker’s Mark in the world to wash that pain away.

Time is on Obama’s Side: It’s been known for a while that Time magazine is basically another branch of the White House. The “newsmagazine’s” bias has been on display for a long time, but its ass-kissing has reached an all-time low. When Mark Halperin writes an article entitled, “Obama’s Islamic-Center Stance: Why the GOP Shouldn’t Run Against It,” you can rest assured that the GOP should take the opposite advice.

President Obama became Head Shark Jumper in January 2009. Congratulations!

Let’s face it. This whole “green” thing has officially jumped the shark and turned into an Urban Legend of mythic proportions. For instance, I have a friend who took issue with one of my posts and compared my indifference to Global Warming (or whatever it is depending on the current weather) to someone who wouldn’t do anything if an asteroid was on a collision course with the earth. The argument was a little more nuanced than that, but that was the crux of it.

This idea that climate change is leading to catastrophe and apocalypse is absurd. Why is it that Global Warmongers can never see the silver linings? Is warming catastrophic? Sure, if you live on Venus. But Venus is a greenhouse gone made because it’s so close to the sun, not because Venusians are drinking coffee from Styrofoam cups.

The truth is that a warmer earth is a friendlier earth. According to “scientists,” or at least those engaged in studying the history of climate change:

By 5000 to 3000 BC average global temperatures reached their maximum level during the Holocene and were 1 to 2 degrees Celsius warmer than they are today. Climatologists call this period the Climatic Optimum. During the Climatic Optimum, many of the Earth’s great ancient civilizations began and flourished. In Africa, the Nile River had three times its present volume, indicating a much larger tropical region.

Hmmmm. Let’s see… So an earth 1 to 2 degrees C warmer than it is today is called an “Optimum” by so-called climatologists. But according to Global Warmongers, an earth that warms will rain destruction on mankind and the various species which he (or she) shares with them. Can we at least wait until the earth reaches its Optimum before we regulate ourselves back to the Stone Age?

When environmentalists predict disaster, gird your loins and hold onto your wallet, because “environmentalism” is a penny-ante version of Liberation Theology (a.ka., Marxism). It is less science and more like religion. It has its holy days (Earth Day), its priesthood (scientists in search of grants) and its Apocalypse (climate change).

Like any religious cult, when they predict doomsday and it doesn’t happen they find an excuse and move on to the next doomsday prediction. In the past few decades we’ve had the Population Bomb (didn’t happen), the DDT scare (wasn’t true) and now Global Warming. But, of course, Global Warming is morphing into Climate Change, because how the hell can you argue against that? The climate changes all the time and always has! So there!
