ted rall goes off the reservation

It’s not easy being president. I guess that’s bit of an understatement, but I read this crazy article earlier this week and couldn’t’ believe my eyes. Ted Rall is a liberal cartoonist and has a history of making bold statements. On Tuesday Rall wrote an op-ed titled Mr. Obama: Resign Now. President Obama hasn’t even been in office for five months and the natives are already getting restless.

We expected broken promises. But the gap between the soaring expectations that accompanied Barack Obama’s inauguration and his wretched performance is the broadest such chasm in recent historical memory. This guy makes Bill Clinton look like a paragon of integrity and follow-through.

That’s just the first paragraph! From the beginning I thought one of the weaknesses of Obama’s campaign was the soaring nothingness it represented. The president spoke boldly about nothing. For many progressives they projected their hopes and dreams into Obama’s hope and change rhetoric. Rall goes on…

Obama is cute. He is charming. But there is something rotten inside him. Unlike the Republicans who backed Bush, I won’t follow a terrible leader just because I voted for him. Obama has revealed himself. He is a monster, and he should remove himself from power.

I have to admit there’s something refreshingly honest about this statement. Bush took a beating from the left for eight years; it was non-stop from day one. Obama has embraced many of Bush’s polices in regards to foreign policy and national security; all under the guise of empty speeches promising change. As far as there being something “rotten inside” of Obama; that’s a bit of a stretch. The president is a politician; a great politician. Great politicians are good at saying one thing and doing another. For the left this could be a difficult pill to swallow.
