Liberalism’s Heart of Darkness

On July 29, 2011, in Fascism, by club soda

The rhetoric from the so-called Progressive left has become progressively poisonous. It is difficult to fathom that one would write or say, let alone think, the disgusting, profane things said and written by leftists about conservatives, particularly conservative women and minorities.

Palin and Bachman are evil bitches and C words, held up as effigies of a particularly degrading form of politicized propaganda. Black conservatives are Uncle Toms who have somehow betrayed their race, simply because they think their race is better than the condescending white guilt that treats them as if they were idiotic children.

This dehumanizing objectification has become the defining tactic of the left; there is no logical defense available for leftist ideology, thus it sinks to the lowest depths of depravity to make its point, such as it is.

The ridiculous coexist bumper sticker

When fascism comes to America it will be driving a Prius with a COEXIST bumper sticker.

Witness the Tweets Henshaw regurgitates here in all their glory, and then the righteous indignation, accompanied by profanity and insults, when the Tweeter finds their Tweet at The Daily Plunge. Also witness the commentary on leftist sites like Daily Kos and The Huffington Post. Offensive comments are not relegated to the left side of the blogosphere, but the sheer volume of mean-spirited, ugly commentary is somewhat shocking.

Then again, maybe this is not so shocking. Years ago as an idealistic college student I was attracted to liberalism based on its professions of tolerance and open mindedness. Enthusiasm soon dissolved into disillusionment.

Oddly enough, one of my epiphanies came during an MTV News report on a pro-choice concert headlined by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was rather jarring to me that a rock band with a fairly large collection of misogynist songs in its repertoire would be “pro woman.” Then it dawned on me that being pro-choice is not pro-woman at all. It’s another way to degrade women and to tell them that they’re too stupid and immoral to make a right choice before conception.

For some reason, the left embraces an ideology that basically says we’re not much better than animals, and thus need to be treated as such. This is one of the founding principles of the Progressive movement, from its early years as it dabbled in eugenics to its modern-day insistence that man is not a special creation, endowed by his creator with certain inalienable rights.

This is an important area of separation between right and left. If rights are endowed by the creator, government has no real right to either grant them or take them away. However, if rights are endowed by your fellow man, they become arbitrary and subject to the whims of those in power. Moreover, if I am endowed by my creator, I have individual worth, regardless of my views. But if I am just another animal, a parasite on Mother Earth, then it’s easier to make me one of “them” and thus expendable.

Ultimately, what I found was that liberalism was neither tolerant nor open-minded. In fact, liberalism, in its post-modern sense, is not liberal at all; it is totalitarian. This becomes increasingly clear as one samples the vast media landscape of leftist voices, from the anonymous comments at The Daily Kos to the rants of Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Keith Olbermann, Janeane Garofalo, et al.

They do not respectfully disagree; they demonize anyone who disagrees with them. They aim to take away the very humanity of their opponents, an ancient and effective means of politics that has sometimes led to genocide.

This is yet another reason I believe in limited government. I do not want to be subject to the whims of people who hold such contempt for others in their heart, a contempt that borders on inhumanity. The great massacres of the 20th Century were perpetrated largely by dehumanizing and degrading those being murdered so that the majority of people would simply look away as the atrocities were committed.

The defining characteristic of genocidal regimes is that all real power is concentrated in the central State; all else is subordinate. While I’m obviously concerned about the totalitarian leanings of the left, someone on the left may be concerned about a theocracy. Fair enough, but all of us, left and right, should advocate for a limited federal government because when all power resides in the federal government, we’re all screwed.

Rick Perry Crazy Tweets

On July 26, 2011, in Blogosphere, Politics, by Henshaw

It’s that time again. I love reading crazy tweets. Today’s topic is racism. We’ll hear a lot about racism over the course of the next 15 months. Opposing President Obama’s reelection automatically means you’re a racist. Well, that’s what morons will be saying. Brace yourself, this is going to be the ugliest election in my lifetime.

Rick Perry said as a "States Rights supporter" that term is so FUCKING racist! "STATES RIGHTS?!"
@Mr_Sokoya
Signore Sokoya

States rights are racist kind of like how oxygen is racist or my toothbrush. I’ve seen the way my toothbrush looks at people. I can tell. Everything is racist is the new racism.

Texas governor Rick Perry is crushing his state with racist teaparty ideas & laws that protect the interests of rich conservatives.
@freedommary
Mary Burrowes

I’m tired of the rich myth. Two-thirds of the super-rich voted for Obama in the last election. The elite in this nation vote for Democrats. I’m not sure why this myth continues, but two thirds of people who make over $30 million a year voted for Obama in 2008.

Rick Perry is an asshole, Jon Stewart should be president, and I'm voting for Ron Paul.

I haven’t figured out the Ron Paul people. A lot of them are confused. For example, Ron Paul and Jon Stewart pretty much disagree on every policy issue. Jon Stewart is a liberal even though he tries to convince himself he’s a moderate. Sadly, that’s why viewers like this guy are all over the political map.

Facebook vs. Ford

On July 13, 2011, in Miscellaneous, by club soda

In the interest of full disclosure, I’m on Facebook, but I won’t get into all the things I hate about it. That’s not the point. The point revealed itself to me last night whilst swimming in the swill that is cable “news” opinion “journalism.” Yes, I love scare quotes, perhaps a bit too much, but those words in scare quotes demand them.

Facebook and great inventions

I'll take the automobile over social media any day.

Anyway, one of the guests on the show said that you can see cultural and economic progress in the rise of the young entrepreneurs who started Facebook and Twitter. I see the exact opposite. I see a culture that no longer makes things, but rather engorges itself in meaningless, shallow entertainment.

Most of the innovation we’ve seen in the information age has had little to do with making our lives easier or better, but has instead provided new and better ways to be social-media zombified couch potatoes.

While past generations were busily perfecting jets, rockets, the combustion engine and instant coffee, this generation is trying to figure out how best to get the latest scoop on Lady Gaga or Casey Anthony in 30 characters or less. You might say America is entertaining itself to death, and it very well may be. History is littered with great civilizations that imploded from the sheer weight of their decadence.

Perhaps I sound like each generation’s grumpy old man, though I’m not that old, but admittedly somewhat grumpy. Every generation likes to bitch about the generation that follows, and for good reason. It is quite likely that progress is a bell curve that cannot be sustained. At least that’s what history has taught us. Therefore, older generations may have a point about previous generations, possibly starting around the time of the Civil War.

My theory is that America has already reached its potential and is on the right (or wrong, if you prefer) side of the bell curve. The culture has objectively declined in recent years. While parents in the ‘50s were aghast at the pelvis of Elvis, just imagine what they’d think of (insert name of just about any pop star). The juvenile and prurient nature of today’s pop culture does not represent progress toward higher forms of art. Rather, it represents regression to tribal, animal-like forms, a regression that has been ongoing for years.

And while we revel in the ingenuity of iPhones, iPads, Androids, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and whatnot that ensure we’re constantly immersed in regressive pop culture crap, what the hell are we making? Absolutely nothing. We’re becoming less connected as we become more connected, and more distracted from the things that really matter.

In the process, we become more willing to cede our independence and liberty if it will buy us precious app time to play with our doodads. This is not a recipe for a healthy and progressive society.

When I was posting the deranged tweets for my entry about the GOP field I had no idea that I would uncover the the Holy Grail of crazy. Kathryn Scaglione, where have you been all my life? Nestled in between blog posts about the Real Housewives of New Jersey (no, really!) is an open letter to Sarah Palin. The Daily Plunge has written ad nauseum about Sarah Palin Derangement Syndrome so I won’t get into that again, but there is plenty to take exception to with Scaglione’s tweets and blog posts. So Kathryn, here’s my open letter to your political derangement. It’s a love letter to crazy. A monument to tribal wisdom and shallow intellectualism.

A great place to start is the last 24 hours. Let’s just look at some of the tweets she’s written.

@'s wife had a 2nd trimester abortion. And I'm sure he's made her feel like shit ever since. Douche. http://tinyurl.com/6h6lh69

@KathrynJScags
Kathryn Scaglione
"A third of all the young people in America are not in America today because of abortion." - @. What a douchebag.
@KathrynJScags
Kathryn Scaglione

Wow, she’s about a purple horseshoe marshmallow short of being a box of Lucky Charms. You can cut the white guilt with a knife. This is what happens when you watch too much of MSNBC and The Daily Show. I can hear her now. “This guy gets his news from FOX News!! That facist, racist, asshole!” I mean this his how people like this think. Just read what she wrote about the birther nonsense.

Donald Trump is now a birther. Meaning, he’s a racist. Again, if you’re a birther, YOU ARE A RACIST. There is NO reason to demand a President to show his birth certificate, other than the color of his skin. Does anyone else remember past Presidents being ORDERED to show their birth certificates?

How many past presidents had fathers who weren’t American citizens? Is it really strange that our society of conspiracy theorists wouldn’t have a field day with Obama’s history? The Daily Plunge always thought the birther movement was dumb. However, what about truthers, the JFK assassination, and Bigfoot? Do all conspiracy theories that involve black people automatically equal racism, or those that involve Big Foot, Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster equal Mythical Creature Phobia? When the press was creating “fake but accurate” stories about President Bush’s National Guard service was that racist? In another post from last November Scaglione opines

Even as crazy and psychotic as the Tea Party is, in a political climate, the ones who DO scream the loudest seem to be heard the most and win the ‘argument.’ The Democrats and liberals don’t know how to scream at all. The Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert Rally to restore sanity WAS in essence, true … but it felt like I was in 3rd grade and the teacher was giving the whole class a lecture, even though everyone knew who the culprits were

Let’s not forget the crowd at that fake rally, or celebration of Stuff White People Like. It was a rally for morons that was held by liberal comedians. This wasn’t a political event. It was a snarky event that had no impact on the election. Liberals aren’t loud enough? Really? Eight years of Bush Derangement Syndrome, war protests, and speaking truth to power wasn’t enough? I’m supposed to take this person seriously as an intellectual, fact-based follower of politics? Really? Reality is not your friend. Scaglione goes on to cite Bill Maher. Yes, that Bill Maher. Is it any wonder Scaglione is politically deranged when she gets her “facts” from people like Maher?

With the epidemic of fake lesbian bloggers I almost wonder if Scaglione’s blog is a parody of the left. When someone becomes this deranged about politics what are facts? There’s no such thing has objective, fact-based analysis, just childish rants. It’s just worn out talking points such as “Sarah Palin said ObamaCare would create Death Panels, it’s a lie and she’s a bitch.” Ah, I see. Although, a very logical argument can be made that rationed health care will lead to some pesky end-of-life decisions made by the state. The state will choose “panels” to make those decisions. Rationed care isn’t wild speculation. Every nation who has implemented socialized medicine eventually rations care. Don’t tell Kathryn Scaglione, she won’t listen anyway.

The most interesting thing about people like Kathryn Scaglione is that they drape themselves in faux tolerance and enlightenment. What you really see is a person full of hate.  She can’t comment on anything without vile language. She lashes out aggressively toward anyone who doesn’t agree with her worldview. Who does this woman really hate? Conservatives? God? It’s nearly impossible to agree on everything with people. Some of my best friends have completely different points of view. I don’t pretend to believe that liberals have sole possession of the crazies like Scaglione, but when only 38% of Democrats claim to have excellent mental health there’s a problem.

What else can explain the hypocrisy of the anti-war movement? What are the facts? Well, the United States is unleashing predator drones all over the place, the War Powers Act is being ignored, and we’re bombing Libya for no other reason than to protect Europe’s oil interests. Where are the angry war protesters? C’mon Kathryn Scaglione, where’s your fact based rage? Apparently you’re either too obsessed with Sarah Palin or you’re too busy watching MSNBC, The Daily Show, or the Real Housewives of New Jersey. Continue reading »

Weiner Alert: Reason #1,554 I’m Conservative

On June 9, 2011, in Politics, by club soda

I had an interesting conversation this past weekend while riding a gondola to the top of Aspen Mountain for the resort’s last weekend of skiing with a local immersed in Aspen’s culture. It wasn’t a conversation as much as it was a soliloquy as our fellow gondola rider waxed poetic about the town and the four ski mountains that surround it.

Anthony Weiner poses for a Twitter photo

So you really want dufuses like this to run our health care system? Okay then...

He said he was originally from Indiana, but the state was “too conservative” for his tastes; Aspen was just right for him. The ride ended before I could ask him if he was Federalist in his politics, meaning a belief that locals rule the details while the federal government manages the “general political interests of the nation,” as Alexander Hamilton put it in Federalist No. 84, not “the regulation of every species of personal and private concerns.”

The great thing about Federalism in theory and practice is that it allows someone who doesn’t like the political climate in his location to move somewhere else that better suits them. Do you want universal health care? Move to Massachusetts. Want to openly smoke pot? Move to Aspen. Don’t want the state to be on your ass all the time and regulate you into oblivion? Move to Texas or Indiana.

However, when those jokers in D.C. consolidate their power and begin to regulate every species of personal and private concerns, there is no escape. What does this have to do with Twitter Boy, Anthony Weiner? It’s just the latest example in a long line of bi-partisan examples that should warn all of us to limit, rather than enlarge, the scope and reach of the federal government.

But every time one votes for a Democrat they’re voting to give the federal government more power, concentrating that power in only a few hands, hands that are decidedly busy looking for ways to use their office to get into someone’s pants or pickpocket our money for nefarious purposes. I don’t really care what these people do in their spare time, but I sure as hell care when they do it on the taxpayer’s dime, a.k.a., my dime.

Then, they typically lie and obfuscate about their sins as they search for some way to retain the perks of their office, the aforementioned hands in the pants and pockets. And you really want them to run our health care system?

Let me be clear, to borrow a phrase… The only individual they care about is themselves, by and large. Where do you think you really stand in their world? Like most people the world over they have only their best interests at heart. This is human nature, the nature liberals deny in their unicorn-filled fantasy world.

America’s founders rejected this fantasy land, this brotherhood of man nonsense that they understood to be unattainable. They realized that allowing a small group of people the ability to regulate every species of personal and private concerns from a remote location would mark the end of the freedom they envisioned for the people of the United States.

Thus the Constitution is a document of limitations on federal power. It enumerates the necessary functions of a central government, while it gives states and localities the power to handle the details (please see the 10th Amendment in the Bill of Rights). If you think about it logically, it makes perfect sense. Our local and state leaders are far more accountable to the people than are a relative few thousands of miles away in Washington, D.C.

So why did the aptly named Weiner run for office in the first place? Was it a selfless dedication to protecting our liberties and freedoms through valiant public service? Or, was it to opiate the masses with hand-outs so that he could more easily pursue his primary passion… young ladies?

Reading uninformed tweets on Twitter never gets old, so I decided to check out the liberals’ take on the debt ceiling debate. I’m not surprised that they believe the real problem is rich people…

TheDailyEdge: #GOP Says Debt Ceiling Vote Must Be Tied to Cutting #Medicare, Because Taxing the Rich Would Be "Too Easy" #p2 #news
@as_promised
S G Hastey

Well, taxing the rich wouldn’t work. Even if we increased taxes on the rich by 100% it wouldn’t solve our debt problems. S G Hastey’s bio on twitter reads,”If you haven’t figured out yet that the GOP is a perverse combination of Christianity and wealth, you’ve got catching up to do.” I guess he doesn’t know that two-thirds of people making over $30 million a year voted for Obama in the last election. Oh well, facts are overrated. It’s just easier to live with tribal knowledge.

Debt ceiling has been raised 72 times (10 in the last decade) but GOP will do ANYTHING to spite this Black man. @ @ #P2 #P2b

Who is obsessed with race? Liberals or conservatives? The left doesn’t really have an argument in favor of raising the debt ceiling. No, it’s simpler than that. To oppose raising the debt ceiling means you’re either an evil rich Christian, a racist, or both.

Two wars, ABSURD tax cuts for the very rich, and then a vote against raising the debt ceiling until the poor are further squeezed? SHAME!#fb
@tomoconnor
Tom O'Connor

Voting against the debt ceiling is a vote against the poor? How does this work? The real shame is that the entire nation will be poor if these idiots get their way. It’s an odd time in politics. What exactly do these people think is going to happen if we don’t do something? They’re stuck inside their own political echo chamber. Hating Paul Ryan isn’t going to save the day. Raising taxes on the rich isn’t the answer. Liberals, what’s your grand idea? It’s time to get over Liberal Denial Syndrome. Admit there’s a problem.

Well, Tim Pawlenty is in the race and he’s against farm subsides. So far so good. It’s a long way until the first primary, but it’s a good start. Americans say they want honest politicians, but I don’t believe it. Until I’m proven otherwise what voters in Florida and Iowa really want are lies. They want politicians to tell them everything is going to be okay and we don’t have to touch entitlements.

Anyway, how is the deranged left taking the news? Let’s look on Twitter.

"There is no liberty greater than the right to life." - Pawlenty ..but fuck 'em when they're born & gay. Typical RWNJ stance. #p21 #tcot #p2
@ExposeRWNJs
RWNJ Firing Squad

Apparently Tim Pawlenty is in favor of the death penalty if someone is found to be gay. That’s a pretty extreme position even for a conservative Republican. I can’t seem to find that quote, but I guess we’ll just take this guy’s word for it.

#tpaw is trending? Fuck this state sometimes, honestly. Tim Pawlenty is such a piece of shit that he should never be mentioned, ever
@NaturallyChill
Alec the Chill

The only reason I think this tweet is funny is because the Twitter handle is NaturallyChill. There’s nothing chill about this observation. In fact, its’ about as “unchill” as it gets.

Announcement: fuck Tim pawlenty. Scary bastards running for president. #shudder
@Joie1836
Christy Corbeil

There’s a lot of things one could say about Tim Pawlenty. You can call him boring, uncharismatic, or robotic. I’m not sure how anyone could think the guy is scary. However, I don’t write fan fiction about True Blood so what do I know?

The lying ass gop tells the American people we are broke (Walker, Ryan, Pawlenty, etc) while they give huge tax breaks/subsidies to corps.

I’ll wrap this up with a willfully ignorant tweet that hits every unformed talking point out of the park. When will liberals educate themselves about corporate taxation and subsidies? It’s getting tiresome.

When Intelligence Attacks

On January 17, 2011, in Blogosphere, Politics, by Henshaw

One major misconception about intelligent people is that they’re smart. Just because someone has a Ph.D after their name doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve very smart. Sometimes, they’re probably just trying too hard. If I spent the last ten years going to school instead of working a full time job and funding the ever increasing welfare state I could have a Ph.D by now.

Today I’m singling out David Banks. Who is that you may ask? No one, but today he fired off this tweet to Andrew Breitbart.

DA_Banks: @andrewbreitbart I had a bad morning, and hating on you is sort of like praying: nothing’ll happen but it makes me feel better. F*** you. [Edited]

I’m not sure what it is that makes people so deranged about politics. There are many people in this world with whom I disagree, but I won’t feel anything telling Whoopi Goldberg she’s crazy for her laissez-faire view of rape. In Mr. Banks’ defense most of his tweets are fairly harmless; however, on January 7 he wrote this gem:

DA_Banks: Today we can say that @sarahpalinusa killed a woman in Arizona in 2011.

The left’s deranged attacks on Palin are common knowledge, but it’s still fascinating that minutes after the tragedy many people on the left’s first thought was, “How is Sarah Palin involved?” The infamous crosshair nonsense was being circulated right after the shooting was broadcast on the news. That means the moment that some leftie found out that a Democrat had been shot they found any way possible to tie it to Sarah Palin.

Mr. Banks never followed his Palin tweet with any remorse. In fact, the next day he tried to give Palin some advice. The truth is how can you take someone like Mr. Banks seriously? Here’s a person telling a prominent politician to  refrain from “glorifying violence” while at the same time blaming said politician for a murder. I’m sorry Mr. Banks. You might eventually get a Ph.D, but you have a lot to learn before anyone takes your views on politics seriously.

Update: As you can imagine when David Banks had his tweet retweeted by Andrew Breitbart he received a lot of messages. Mr. Banks was able to put it all in perspective.

DA_Banks: I said that to @andrewbreitbart b/c he uses his whole feed as a frame to make leftists look crazy. And you all just eat it up.

What?! Breitbart makes leftists look crazy? I’m sorry Mr. Banks, you’re doing a fantastic job all by yourself.

Liberal Condescension: Twitter Style

On June 20, 2010, in Blogosphere, by Henshaw

It’s been awhile since I’ve written about Twitterspace, but every once in awhile I run into some crazy liberals there. Today I was just minding my own business, watching the Braves play and following the #Braves hashtag on Twitter. That’s when I ran into this guy. KCYeti is another member of the not-so-kind-and-gentle progressive left. I should add that his Twitter feed isn’t exactly family friendly. Here’s his take on Braves fans:

I know, I know, I’m picking on one guy in Kansas and frankly he’s had worse things to say about the Twins. This is just another example of a faux enlightened individual who cloaks his disgusting personality under the guise of progressive political superiority. This is what happens to people when they spend their free time reading The Daily Kos. That type of leftest fringe thought process makes anything easy to believe. It’s easy to pick on Atlanta Braves fans when you believe they’re all inferior racist tea party nutjobs. Just imagine if I ran across this guy and the topic was the Astros or Rangers! Hitler analogies, here we come!

It’s one thing when some Manhattan snob looks down at the South, but as I mentioned earlier Kirk Harris is from Kansas (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Who knew that Kansas was the new bastion of elite philosophical political thought? Then again, maybe it’s not. How stupid do you have to be to Tweet about the Braves anyway?
