The NOAA will be making headlines with the “news” that the last three months have been the “hottest on record.” They’re kind of right. The only problem is the way they’re recording. The recording stations the NOAA uses scattered throughout the world are flawed. Watts Up With That? has documented how bad they are in the United States. Here’s another example where the station recorded a temperature five degrees warmer than it actually was… You see, any time a temperature station is put on a roof, a sidewalk or next to a parking lot, the data recorded is worthless. The satellite data is .8 degrees cooler than the NOAA data. I’m not sure how they’re getting away with such flawed data.
Hence, anytime you see a headline citing “extreme temperatures” and it’s based on the NOAA just ignore it. I know I will.
Here is a great video that sums up the current “climate crisis.” There is no crisis, nor is there is an alarming or unprecedented warming. It’s puzzling that people believe in this unproven theory with such fanatic devotion.
If you’re just an average American you probably don’t know that since 1998 worldwide temperatures have been getting cooler. It’s probably because the billion-dollar global warming industry has been spending so much of its time convincing anyone who will listen that we’re on the edge of catastrophe. Al Gore promised that the “entire north polar ice cap will be completely gone in five years” just last December. No one told him that last year’s Arctic ice extent was normal (this year as well).
So what is an alarmist to do? The world isn’t warming, the ice isn’t melting, and Al Gore is going around making a fool of himself. The time has come to move the goalposts. Watts Up With That? has all the details. Watts points out the absurdity of the alarmist blog Real Climate and its take on the Global Climate Change forum.
We hypothesize that the established pre-1998 trend is the true forced warming signal, and that the climate system effectively overshot this signal in response to the 1997/98 El Niño. This overshoot is in the process of radiatively dissipating, and the climate will return to its earlier defined, greenhouse gas-forced warming signal. If this hypothesis is correct, the era of consistent record-breaking global mean temperatures will not resume until roughly 2020.
There you have it! No need to worry about warming until around 2020. Shouldn’t we be more concerned that there’s no possible way Barack Obama can be president in 2020? Perhaps we should be making arrangements to change the Constitution so that Obama can rule us forever and save the planet!
But I digress… global warming isn’t happening. There’s no evidence to suggest anything abnormal has occurred in our climate over the last 100 years. Al Gore and the rest of the alarmists should be embarrassed, but since most people don’t know or don’t care Gore and co. will continue to make ignorant speeches and get paid for it.
Anthony Watts’ website, Watts Up With That? is one of my favorite sites. Watts has been diligently documenting how poorly temperature is measured in the United States with his How Not to Measure Temperature series. In March Watts published a paper entitled, Is The U.S. Surface Temperature Record Reliable? Watts’ report confirmed that many surface stations are placed in bad areas that give false temperatures. These stations are used to calculate temperature in the United States. If a nation as prosperous as the United States can’t even get temperature right, what does that say about the rest of the world’s data? The National Climate Data Center (NCDC) has addressed Watts’ report with some tenuous talking points. Climatologist Roger A. Pielke Sr. fires back quite strongly in Watts’ defense and concludes with the following…
NCDC would be a much more valuable resource in the climate community if they worked to be inclusive in presenting all peer reviewed perspectives in climate science. Currently, they are only reporting on information that supports their agenda and not communicating real world observational data that conflicts with that agenda. The fault for this failure in leadership is with Tom Karl who is Director of NCDC.
The most annoying thing about the response of the NCDC is that the warmists are so heavily invested in the theory of global warming this kind of careless dismissal of Watts’ report is sufficient. I can hear it now… “Oh, Watts’ theory was debunked by the NCDC!” This kind of blind herd mentality is very common and almost impossible to stop.
Our temperature data is unreliable. We can decipher trends, but we don’t know exact numbers. It’s shocking that there is so much nonsense being advanced on an unproven theory that’s partly based on data that’s unreliable. Who said faith is dying? It’s alive and well if you’re an alarmist.
